  • Dont give up, keep practicing. I had no one to teach me and as a child I learnt to knit backwards because I learnt watching other people! The first thing I knitted my son was a cardigan with one side longer than the other, which he had to wear:eek:! It just takes patience

My mum tried to teach me to knit when I was a lass but I just remember it being a disaster - I somehow managed to end up with more stitches than I had started with so my knitting just got wider. It was discarded and never looked at again.
I was exactly the same. :o
Is your mum still with you? My mum's now taught me as my mind was open to what she was teaching me.

Mum taught me the basics....knit/purl, cast on/off etc, but I taught myself a lot of the rest through trial and error and working through patterns. I made a lot of baby stuff for niece and that was how I got more confident to try things. The internet is great- I did not really have that when starting with patterns proper and it is so handy to be able to ask people and see other peoples work too.
Knitting more DS cardi later hopefully but also need to get on with other stuff too!

I did have a look but decided not to purchase, as hope to visit New Lanark again in the summer (we were there summer 2009)- mum lives an hour or so drive away from there and it is a lovely lovely place!
Sorry not to be any more help. I did think it sounded very good value!

Hi Orkney Star, just read that last post and immediately snuck over to Ravelry to have a nosy - it's nice to be able to put a face to the name! I'm on Ravelry but not in any groups - how do I join the MSE one? By the way, great idea to put your photos on - I wish I'd thought of that years ago because you do forget. Love the socks!

    Thanks!
The conventional way would be go click on the groups tab at the top, type in MSE ravelry, and hit search. A clicky will magically appear, click on it and over at the top right there is a 'join this group'- click on that!
The other option is if you click on me you will see down the left side the groups I am a member of- MSE ravelry is there (one without any pic)- click and join it that way.

Who are you on ravelry ?

Um, kinkine, lol x Having said that, I haven't done anything with it yet. It all takes away from the knitting! :)
