It's funny, I haven't been able to even start them yet but I'm already planning socks for everyone this Christmas - nothing like setting yourself a challenge!

You're right about the weather Suzybloo - on which subject I am sitting here in a cold draught thinking I should really knit myself a draught excluder. I've looked on e-Bay for the old style dachshund but they want about £4 for the pattern plus P&P! Not very moneysaving. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good (free) patterns - I've now got it in my head I'd like to do a sort of multi coloured caterpillar (think The Very Hungry Caterpillar) but couldn't find anything when I was searching. Any ideas?
  • Kinkine, if finding a pattern proves unsuccessful, how about improv-ing one?
I should imagine it's a fairly simple premise, perhaps an extra wide stripey scarf type of thing, and then sew together lengthwise?
    IYKWIM?

I'm at a loss now whet to knit with my Denim Ultra chunky, I have orders for my crazy jumper that I finished, my Step-Dad wants one, my FIL, will have to one for my Grandfather-in-law, and DH seems quite open to one if I get the sizing right.

I've started some charity knitting, the small things, hats and toys etc.

But I want a jumper for me! A simple one as I'm still a n00b at knitting, in a chunky wool with big needles. Have searched Rav but not finding anything that I like that also has the pattern with it.
KnittingPatternCentral is far too mishmash for me to keep browsing as it's taking me days!!!!

Lion Brand yarns has two free patterns - it took me a while to find them as the US spelling is 'draft' excluder!

    http://www.lionbrand.com/cgi-bin/patternFinder.fcgi?language=&store=%2Fstores%2Flionbrand&cost=%2Fstores%2Flionbrand&search=1&craft=Knit&searchText=draft&submit.x=27&submit.y=6

Even if you don't like these two, try a search with the US spelling and that might help you!

Thanks Apollinia, I like the snake one. I never twigged about draft and draught! I'll be able to rattle one up in no time now.

Hunnybeanz - any chance of a picture of your crazy jumper - sounds intriguing. I also find it time consuming trawling through the patterns - especially the ones without pictures.

On a technical note, I decided for the first time in my life to do a tension square for the socks. According to the pattern, 30sts x 42 rows of the 4ply wool provided on 2.5mm dpns should be 10cm square, but my square is 9cm long by 7cm wide. How do I correct it - do I go up a couple of sizes on the needles? Any help appreciated.

My jumper is on there hun, hope you can see it?
I'm not too sure how to directly link a pic, I need to remember my info for flickr!

It now has sleeves, so I need to put a pic up with the sleeves sewn in.

Hunnybeanz - thanks for that. What a good idea to keep a photo record of all that you've done. I should start doing that - when I have a minute!

Thanks psso - I'm going to end up doing a few draught excluders I think (I can't believe how cold it has got).
  • Kinkine, thanks hun ;)

I've been to my local group this aft (it's another temporary group, and only 3 weeks left of it now, but I'll take what I can get!)
It's in the local sports centre, and we yarn-bombed it LOL. Random bits of knitting now dotted around the place, it looks really cute LOL!
