I'm trying to remember where I've seen people asking for a Bagpuss pattern, was it here? If so there's a Woman's Weekly knitting magazine edition out at the moment which has the pattern in.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

Hya all,
Don't think I have posted here at all, but have been lurking for a while. Lots of lovely things being created.
I wonder if anyone can help me. I have knitted since I was 4, but have never completed any socks! I have some Sirdar Crofter DK and Sirdar pattern no 9338, which I got online (Black Sheep). Unfortunately the socks are all knitted on two pins and I woud rather use 4 (or 5) or a circular needle. Can I just change to them regardless, or would I need to adapt the pattern? This would be difficult for me as I have only ever turned one heel...and that was well over 30 years ago!!! The other alternative is a pattern for DK on DP or circular...and I have been trawling through Ravelry and Knitting pattern Central, though they mostly seem to be for 4 ply. Perhaps I should just get some 4-ply, at least for my first attempt!!
I may just have a go at the weekend and see how I get on...but if anyone can help, or point me in a helpful direction, I would be very greatful.
Thanks...goes back to lurking quietly.

So the socks are knitted back and forth on two needles and then sewn up afterwards? You could adapt the pattern, but it would take a bit of faffing.
I knit socks using 5 double pointed needles (can also do it on 4needles if you want) and I always knit them in the round.
There is a good website for creating custom patterns for socks
http://www.violetgreen.co.uk/sock_pattern_calculator.php
This website uses 4 ply yarn, but you could adapt the number of stitches to take into account the fact that you are using fatter DK wool.
To be honest if you have never knitted socks before I would splash out and buy some of the 4ply and start that way.0 -
Hi, I wonder if any of you good people could help me out?
I've found a great knitting pattern on line for babies 'denim jeans' knitted from Rowan Denim (sorry, don't know how to direct you to pattern) - can anyone tell me to where I could buy the wool cheaper that this from the Rowan on site store - £3.75 per 50g ball (I will need 3) plus £2+ (not sure how much) postage, which would make them almost £15 to make  These are really cute but pretty expensive to make for a baby!
I've tried my local (market) knitting shops but neither of them sell it, nor could they let me know where I could get it from.

Unless someone is selling some cheaply on ebay I'm not sure you could get Rowan for less, it's rather pricey wool. You could always substitute. Ravelry says Rowan Denim is a DK cotton so you could look for cheaper DK cotton or any DK would work if you checked your tension you could just get a darker blue to look more like jeans. I know Sirdar do a "demin" wool. Good luckOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

i've just downloaded the chunky cardy/jumper link put on the knitting thread the other day, but i'm still re-learning how to knit after a break of 20yrs!!
pls could anyone tell me what k2tbl means? does it mean i knit 1 stitch thru the back of the loop ie knit into the back of the stitch, then do the same again, or does it mean i knit 2 together thru the back of the stitch?
also when it comes to doing the fronts, and it says reverse all shapings, how do i do that?
hope someone can help as i've bought the wool now, and i'm scared to start it in case i ruin it!0 -
