i've just taken up knitting again after a break of about 20 years, thanks to the inspiration from this thread :T

i'm after a pattern for a chunky ladie's jumper, as i saw the wool and bought it, and it needs 6mm needles, but i can't find a pattern on any of the free pattern link on here thats suitable for it

can anyone point me in the right direction, or is there a way to search for patterns by needle size?

i want to use big needles and thick wool so it knits up fast so i dnt lose heart!

i was knitting squares for a blanket through amonthly magazine that taught lots of differnet techniques as you went along getting harder all the time. well when i got my first 9 together and was told i could start knitting them together i realised they were all different sizes depending on what stitch i used. i tried re doing them on smaller needles or fewer stitches and that became even more tiresome. but pulled all the folders out today but cant find the wool. have dug up other wool i forgot i had. i was wondering howmany of you did finish and sew together the blanket, how does it look? also have 13 balls of 50gram machine washabledouble knit wool. its in a bluewool with a sort ofblack wool going through. not of great quality but wondered if anyone had any suggestions of what i could make. found some funky wool to do a scarf which i dont need but will get my fingers started and hopefully too busy for sweets or cigs

I've knitted this up, it's not a jumper though.

    http://www.knitnstyle.com/projects/KnitWrapJacket/knitwrapjacket.pdf

It calls for 6.5mm needles so you could just adjust the tension slightly.

I've not worn it yet but it does feel very thick and warm and the nice thing is it does knit up really quickly.
    Did owe £9,951.96

    Hi Mandy_Moo,
Are you on https://www.ravelry.com? They have a pattern searcher, which you can tell to look for 6mm needle patterns and many other options:
    http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/search#craft=knitting&sort=best

As you tick the options it'll re-search for you.

    Hope this helps.
  • Finally finished my scarf, only took me a month for a simple pattern, kept getting sidetracked.

Great work everyone! I really enjoy seeing pics of other people's knitting. I go through phases of forgetting about mine but when I see what other people do, it inspires me to pick up my own and get on with it! Of course it would help if I didn't keep ripping it back, or frogging (that word cracks me up!:rotfl:)

Orkney, I LOVE your new socks, the yarn is gorgeous.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

I'm currently knitting this one from ravelry http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/95-9-short-sleeved-top-in-in-safran-and-alpaca
using 6mm circulars and wool from an old jumper I unravelled (very mse!) I like it as it's mostly just knit (or stocking stitch) and it does grow pretty quickly on 6mms.

I don't know if it's already been mentioned, but do a pattern search for US size 10 (I think) as that is the 6mm equivalent. You may get more choice as not all patterns show both sizes.

    .
    Thanks.
TBH I had other sock yarn waiting (even tried a little of another one out to see how it looked- keeping it for male socks!), but just loved these colours! Not cheap at £8.50 per ball though! After each pair I make I have about 25g left so will make a pair of socks with all the ends once I have enough......they are all the same ply if different colours lol!
    xx

I think it's worth every penny - it's so cheerful looking you will have to call them The Socks of Happiness! I like the sound of using the leftovers to make another pair - they'll be very cute!
