I've knitted this up, it's not a jumper though.

    http://www.knitnstyle.com/projects/KnitWrapJacket/knitwrapjacket.pdf

It calls for 6.5mm needles so you could just adjust the tension slightly.

I've not worn it yet but it does feel very thick and warm and the nice thing is it does knit up really quickly.

aww i love this....but i'm put off attempting it cos i dnt understand the abbreviations!!

what does BO mean? and k1tbl? theres probably others on there as well that i dnt understand! and how on earth do you reverse things for the opposite side, when it only gives you instructions for one side of the cardigan?

OrkneyStar - how much enjoyment are you getting from that £8.50 though? Think in terms of hours, say it takes 17hrs to knit a pair of socks that's 50p per hour, cheaper than the cinema but plenty of entertainment AND you get a pair of socks at the end of it!!

    Yep it is true!
Started the sock yesterday- am 3/4 done, and so far been knitting a total of about 6 hours! This one is going fast. Even £1 per hour is cheap though ;).
LOL I am off the island at the end of the week, to visit mum, and might just have to nip into Hobbycraft to look at the yarns.....anyone purchased yarn from there ? ...do they have a good range ? I used to love John Lewis Haberdashery dept. but last time I was in Glasgow that section seemed to have shrunk :(!.

Yeah they say 'bind off' where we say 'cast off'.

Our Hobbycraft isn't bad for choice but not great either, they have some Regia sock yarn then it's lots of Sirdar, Rowan and some Patons. Always worth a look though as they sometimes have good reductions on.

1 an hour is cheaper than the cinema also! I'm not even sure now how long I take to knit a pair of socks but I know the yarn feels worth every penny. I'm on a yarn diet at the moment though, non for me until I've used up a lot of what I've got (which is A LOT!) the only exception to that is I've got cheap train tickets for a little trip to London later this month and have John Lewis vouchers so will be going there and also maybe buying a little in the yarn shops there but I've got a very strict budget and projects in mind :)

Ok well I think I might have a wee look in Hobbycraft.
TBH I have a wool stash to use, lots of plain/patterned wools (not self patterning fair isle but striped/varied), a lot of DK, but seeing as I don't get off the island much it is nice to have a look when I do get away (not been away since Aug 09). We are lucky to have two good wool shops up here near us and of course there are some great wool stockists on ebay!

Finally finished my scarf, only took me a month for a simple pattern, kept getting sidetracked.

Want to make some matching fingerless gloves next :)

this looks lovely, what stitch did you use? it looks like it might be one of those that are quite easy but really hard, would you mind sharing. not knitted anything more adventurous that scarves or baby things since i have re started knitting after a 20 year lapse. not very experienced so hope magazines i bout last year will help me progress as i work my way throughthe mag. also when ever i see pattern i like i look up wool and it is usually quite expensive and not confident enough to buy similar in case it doesnt come out right, any suugestions greatfully received

    Hi

Like others have said BO means bind off (cast off) and kttbl means you knit into the back of the stitch. Doing in reverse just means if you decreased at the beginning of the row you decrease at the end of the row and so on. I don't remember there being anything too complicated about it.

If you decide to knit it up you can always ask me anything you don't understand and I'll try to help.

I must admit I am looking forward to wearing it when it starts to get really cold. Might even have to wear it to our annual barbecue in November :j

if the pattern calls for 8 ounces of wool, what is that in grams? Is it about 125? It's a childs jumper & it doesn't seem like much.

    Thanks

working on the principal that 454g is 1lb (16oz), then 8oz would be about 225g, so you'd need 2x100g balls (or obviously 4x50g)...depending on the yardage/ply of the wool.

This may, or may not, help!
