I cant explain knitting to anybody, I just muddle people up. I had best stay quiet and get on with my socks lol!
Well you gave me an excellent explanation today! :T But I don't believe the bit about staying quiet and getting on with your socks ... not for one second! :D Would love to hear what RV would say about that!

Oh thanks Orkney ... and it wasn't you who confused me, I'm permanently like that when it comes to knitting! :D Not too keen on the idea of bumpy bits inside my socks (other than my ankles) so maybe I will stick with the rib for this pair.

That's lovely wool, I remember seeing it in Kemps but couldn't think of anything I'd use it for so now I know, thanks!
If knit rib all the way round your socks for every row you will end up with a slightly tighter sock which basically looks same outside and inside.
If you knit all the way round you will have a smooth outside with the 'v' shaped stitches and a slightly less smooth inside, with little u shaped stitches.
TBH even if I did a ribbed part to the leg part I would be inclined to do a flat sole but that is just me- sort of like this (not my work!).
The pattern I have for the crofter wool also has leg warmers and socks in 4 sizes. I also have some of the chunky wool to make a neck warmer!

Thanks Orkney Star ... tight might be handy for not falling down. Although they will not be very long so it won't really matter. I think Silver's tutorial has the flat sole and foot part, just the leg bit is in rib. But I like the look of the knitted leg bit and it sure would be easier, I think I will try that ... if I don't like it, I can do my next pair differently. Although at the rate I'm going that will probably be years from now! :D

Neck warmer, socks and leg warmers all sound so cosy! You will be well-kitted out for winter! :)

Thanks mardatha. I've just joined :)

Finished my yoga blanket today so now looking for my next project...

I do like the look of all the socks but think it'd take a bit of practice getting used to dpns.

My crofter ones are long- almost knee, but I knew that from the pattern- they are probably for bed/very cold mornings!
As a rule I like either long or short but not halfway in the middle lol!
Aren't we all funny things ?

  • Actually, the more I think about it... I might try knitting in the round to knit a cover for my new Kindle - might be a good starter project if I knit something simple like this: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/karens-kindle-sweater
