My finished socks!
I've now cast on for a plain pair for a friend which I hope wont take too long as she only has little feet. I'm soldiering on with my shawl and only (ha!) have 31 rows to do now.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

Oh I am having sock-envy! They are just gorgeous lambanana!
I was wondering if anyone has knitted socks in Regia sock wool using Silver's tutorial? I'm wondering how many inches of frib I can knit for the leg and still have enough yarn for the foot.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!

How big are your feet? I wear a size 6 and usually knit about an inch of rib then 5 inches or so of plain before doing the heel and foot and still have a bit left over from that. This is using 64 stitches on 2.5mm DPNs.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

I'm also a 6 and always use Regia and have never run out of wool. But I like ankle length socks.0

Regia is pretty good for yardage anyway, I knit my DH a pair of socks using regia which were 68 stitches on 2.5mm needles with a 6" cuff and he's a size 11! I'll admit I was a bit concerned and there wasn't a right lot of the wool left BUT I still did it with a bit to spare. I'd say they took about 90g in total of the wool to knit.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

The socks are lovely lambanana.
I only managed 8 rows last night- turning a heel! Was so drowsy with cold/painkillers I did not want to risk doing more and making a mistake!
Maybe later!

If you wind half your wool off into another ball (I use my weightwatches scales for this, they are perfect because they weigh a gram at a time!) then use the balls to make toe-up socks, you can get maximum lenght without ever risking running out.Oh dear, here we go again.0

Oh well that's encouraging, thanks folks! I'm about 6.5 and I've got 64 stitches. Silver's tutorial doesn't use plain knitting, the whole leg bit (is that the cuff?) is in rib. So I will stick to that as it's my first pair. It's taking me forever as I had to unravel a couple of times cos of mistakes so now I only pick it up when I'm able to concentrate ... not all that often it seems!
Hope you're better soon Mardatha!Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!

I still haven't tried knitting socks toe up, I will though, it's on my knitting skills to learn list along with many other things! Where I can if I'm knitting a pair if it's a 100g ball I'll wind into two or use two 50g balls and knit both socks at the same time on 2 sets of DPNs so I don't have the second sock to start when I've finished the first.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T
