    Hi there,
    Hope everyone is ok.
Here is a finished sock, (here it is again lol too)........just second to do. I was worried that this one was going to use too much wool but was left with a little bit of one ball left, so the next sock done the same should also use just under 1 ball too.
I love it and it feels so warm on!

Beautiful! I think your socks may have a modelling career ahead of them! :D Once again I am having sock envy! What yarn did you use?

I've been doing just rib on my socks as per Silver's beginner's tutorial but I like the look of the normal knitting in yours (is that stocking stitch?). How do you do that on DPNs? How do you know which row is plain and which row is purl? Not sure if I'm making any sense! :o
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

If you're knitting in the round on 4 DPNs you dont purl. You knit a tube and the outside is facing outwards, so you're knitting round and round on the RS. :D

Oh that sounds easy! Less room for mistakes! But does that not look like garter stitch then? I want the purly look like in Orkney's picture. :D

No, if you want a garter stitch look while you're knitting in the round you have to do one row plain, one row purl, funnily enough.

    I think it's a bit of a result, personally - hate purling!

No, it doesn't look like garter stitch, because you are always knitting a right-side row. For stocking stitch, you knit the rows where the right side is facing you and purl the rows where the wrong side is facing you. For reverse stocking-stitch, you do the opposite. But if you've *always* got the right side of your work facing you (as you do on circulars), you only need to do whatever you'd do on right-side rows.

Thanks Choccy and Mardatha ... that is what I call GOOD NEWS!! :j I only have a couple of inches of rib done so I am going to switch to plain old knitting which I am much less likely to mess up - I found it hard concentrating on the rib and couldn't multitask.

This knitting in the round thing is mind-boggling! But I am just going to knit away to my hearts content without trying to understand why it works out the way it does and put it down to one of life's great mysteries. :D

They are knitted using the DK version of Sirdar Crofter (053) and on standard needles (3.25, 4, and 4.5mm), so a little stitching together is needed at the end. As this is standard back and forth knitting (not on dpn's) to get them smooth I did one row plain one row purl on the main parts (not rib/heel).
If knitting 'in the round' on dpn's knitting all the way on each round will create a smooth outer, bumpy inner!
I am sorry if I confused everyone by doing my socks the non-dpn way :(!

Oh thanks Orkney ... and it wasn't you who confused me, I'm permanently like that when it comes to knitting! :D Not too keen on the idea of bumpy bits inside my socks (other than my ankles) so maybe I will stick with the rib for this pair.

That's lovely wool, I remember seeing it in Kemps but couldn't think of anything I'd use it for so now I know, thanks!
