They were in a Simply Knitting supplement not all that long ago --- there may be one going on Ebay or someone may have a copy they're not using/need?

I would love that pattern too if anyone has it?

They're the ones I've looked on ebay and can'tfind them.
Does it mean I won't be able to buy the pattern from anywhere?

I know someone who has that SK supplement, but she has looked and says they aren't in it. Have asked her to check again.

Can anyone confirm that it was in May?

  • Hi everyone

Really enjoying reading through the thread so thought I'd join in with all the fun. :)

I'm not really that good a knitter (yet!) but I do enjoy it. I'm really slow but can follow patterns and always get there in the end...

Not really done anything too complicated so far - scarves, hats, a bag, a little teddy... - I'm currently working on a blanket to take to yoga with me and that came with a pattern for a cushion cover too so might start that next.

I'd also love to knit a little shrug/bolero to wear and I love the look of those stripey socks a few pages back.

Looking forward to finding out about all your projects and hopefully picking up some hints and tips along the way.:T

Hi everyone, I've had to take a break from the fireman sam jumper as it's just not going right. The part where the picture is keeps going really tight and there's holes in it each time i change colours so I'm going to seek out someone who can show me how to do it properly!

Hi yummymummy, did you see my post to you a while ago about this? It's here just in case:

Yummymummy, you have probably sorted this out by now BUT just in case! Do you know those cardboard bobbins you get for embroidery threads? Like this, I mean? What I do when I have got intarsia (posh word for picture knitting) is to make myself a similar "bobbin" - basically you cut yourself a cotton reel shape out of a bit of thick cardboard - off a cardboard box for example - cut a notch/slot in it to catch the end of your wool in, and wind a few yards of wool onto the bobbin. You can either put an elastic band round it or push your wool firmly into the notch so it doesn't all unwind again. If you've got a large area of the same colour then you just stick with the original ball of wool, but if you've got "bits", then you don't want to get all tangled with balls of wool in the back, so you can have shorter lengths on these bobbins, and you won't get in such a mess.

The only thing to remember (and I'm sure you already know this, so hope I don't sound like I'm teaching my grandmother to suck eggs) is that when you change colour, you must wrap the new colour round the old at the back (like this), otherwise you end up with a hole.

The main thing is to twist the threads together. So if you're knitting in blue and you come to a bit where you have to knit red, you hold your blue wool at the back, and instead of just knitting with the red wool straight away, make sure that it is wrapped round the blue wool at the back so that the threads are twisted together where the colours join - otherwise you finish with one colour, start another and have a nice hole in the middle. The link above shows you how to do this (I'm aware that my explanation has probably left you reaching for the ibuprofen!). :rotfl:

It's a comfort wrap, the pictures a bit deceiving, but it's about 2ft by 4ft (at a guess :o) at the moment and I've still got just under half left to go. The sort of thing you would have over your shoulders when reading I think.
Well it is just lovely! I want one lol!
Anyway as promised- here (finally) are the finished gloves which took only one 50g ball of Regia sock wool. They are far from perfect but I am pretty happy for a first proper attempt at gloves.
Also here is the starting of the DK (Sirdar Country) sock knitted with standard pins (although of 3 sizes 4.5, 4 and 3.25 mm at various points). Am at stage of making heel and just nearly ready to turn. Am loving the wool and might just be keeping these for me!

  • Hello to the lovely people on this thread. I've recently decided to learn how to knit. I don't really know anything about it, but I want to expand my life skills. I was hoping you could answer a couple questions.

I have a terrible habit of picking up new hobbies, spending a fortune on supplies, getting bored and moving on to something else. I tried sewing a few years ago, but it didn't last. I've had to sell the machine, the pattern-cutting books, etc. The only thing I kept were the scissors. I don't want to repeat the same mistake. I doubt I'm ever going to get past scarves. So what should I buy? A couple needles and some wool? Is there anything else?

The second question is a bit odd. My husband is allergic to wool. He can't wear wool jumpers, scarves, gloves, etc. But he also hates synthetic-feeling fabrics. Is there a type of non-wool wool I can buy that feels like real wool, but won't make him break out in a rash? I don't know if he's allergic to every type of wool, but he did get a gorgeous cashmere scarf as a gift, and he couldn't wear it. So I'm guessing that anything that comes from sheep or goats is out.

These are probably very daft newbie questions, but any advice would be most appreciated.
