  • Hi, I was in Lidls on Friday night and succumbed........ I bought 3 packs of sock wool even though I have never knitted socks before. A work colleague knits socks on five needles and will help me get started when I get around to them.

This morning I am going to sew up a shawl collar jumper, bootees and helmet in Sirdar crofter for my new baby grandson's christmas, he will be 4 months old then.

Then I have 1 front and 1 sleeve to finish for a crofter cardigan for myself, the wool was half price in the local wool shop - I bought loads.

Then I have some scarves to do for xmas and after that I shall start on the socks.

    Happy knitting!

  • I finally turned the heel and the end is in sight (though another 50ish rounds away!) on my circle socks

My shawl also continues to progress, I'm now half way through the 5th pattern repeat (a few rows on from this picture) and have that and a 6th repeat then the edging to go.

Then I can really get cracking with my Christmas knitting...

I might do those circle socks, really lovely , I like them :)
  • I was able to start my Comfort Wrap this weekend after the wool was delivered to mums. It's been relatively painless once mum helped me with a few bits. :o

I'll get a picture up for you once I get home tomorrow, as I'm on my phone. :)

Thanks Maytaurus, have saved that....my daughter has bought the Simply Knitting magazine which has one in it this month ( with thanks for the heads-up) am going to have a look at the magazine when I see her, but don't think that I will be buying it any time soon as it costs over €9 and couldn't consider that when there are all those lovely patterns on-line.

    Many thanks all

  • For those of you on Ravelry, I've updated my project for the wrap. I've got the same username on there and also added the project to the group. :)

Just glancing through this thread and wish I had wool in the house!!!! I am itching to get knitting again, but I have lost all my confidence. When my two girls were younger (now 23 and 21) I used to do Aran cardigans for them every autum to see them through the winter, but in the past fifteen years or so have knitted very little and what I have done is so plain even when DGS was born I only done basic matinee jackets etc- will definately have to find something that he would love - will go and look for a pattern jumper with a tractor on it and start this week and it could go in his christmas box! The thing that is putting me off is my mum was a fantastic knitter - we were so lucky when we were small, there were 5 kids and we always had lovely jumpers - when I used to knit she would help me if I got stuck but sadly she passed away 10 years ago and I think that has always been at the back of my mind that I dont have anyone to ask for advice. Will let you know how I get on - and hopefully if you dont mind and I get stuck some good soul on here would help me out???

  • Thank you to whomever it was who posted ravelry! It is brilliant. I am suddenly addicted to knitting small toys - is this normal? Some of them have hit the animal hospital already though...

As well as help from people on this site, join Ravelry too. If you've read most of this thread you must have seen it mentioned - www.ravelry.com - help is almost instant there 24/7 as there are more than 800,000 knitters/crocheters from all over the world!

Don't forget that Youtube is used by knitters to post videos of different techniques as well as dedicated websites such as www.knittinghelp.com . Just jump right in and get started - it's like riding a bicycle, it'll all come back to you and soon you'll be helping out the knitters attempting their very first aran pattern.

I know this is true because I only started knitting again 2 years ago after a break of 20 years and with the help of internet videos taught myself to knit socks! on 4 dpns!! and lace shawls!!!
