Oh I don't know about that! I am just so sure I'll make a mess of FI. I think it's the thought of more than one colour to do anything other than stripes! I also do knit quite tightly and fear I'd end up with it all bunched up instead of stranded nicely and that would ruin it (my mum has suggested this may be an issue making me more anxious about trying) I am determined to give it a go though. I do love that book, I'm thinking of adding Aran Knits to my amazon wishlist and seeing if santa is good to me this year!

dont pull the strands at all, just let them naturally strand they will fix themselves. its much better to have loose knitting with colour cos you have to allow for the stretch. But I know you know this :)
  • Started my second pair of socks last night and everytime I read this thread I want to start something new.

My first socks were knitted using Sirdar Crofters and when they are finished actually look like fair isle - amazing!

I think my next project will be a baby's blanket but I also want to make a knitting bag - there just aren't enough hours in the day. I'm on my lunch break at work now so have time to log in.

I struggle with those picture jumpers but can do a little basic FI. Really I am a very slow knitter but pretty good at toys. Crochet is really my thing, not adult clothes but can make really pretty stuff like little houses and baby clothes.

Rejoined the library today after many years away, mainly cos the place is was awkward to get to but now they built tesco' right near it it is quite handy. Got lots of sock books in but resisted for today and got an xmas gifts book with little cross stitch pics on them. Thats tonights project, after I have had a couple of hours sleep - 2 hours sleep last night and running about all day  pity theres not an emoticon of a snoring face :rotfl:

  • I've been adding some more pattern books to my wishlist on Amazon (my DH goes on there for gift inspiration) I know I don't need any more patterns but I want them...and if others are buying!! I have been coveting some socks but the pattern is in a book and none of our libraries have the book. Annoying!

My knitting is getting more loose than it was but it's still quite tight, I think whilst it's partly just the way I knit some of it is because I know tighter knitting is an advantage when making socks as they don't wear through as quickly that way. On that note I must learn how to darn my knitted socks as I found a hole in one pair! No idea how that happened as I have only worn them a couple of times :( they must be repaired!

I really covet a pair of scandinavian style mittens so I must learn!

  • Well I've managed to find enough Sirdar Bigga in Lilac to start my comfort wrap! Just waiting for my mum to buy some needles from the local shop, so I might be able to get the new project started this week. :D
  • Hi, does anyone know where I can buy a set of metal knitting needles? All I can find is bamboo ones and I'm not getting on with them at all! Much prefer the metal ones as they seem to slip better so I can knit quicker! I've only seen metals ones singularly and would much prefer to buy as whole set as it would be cheaper!
