That's what I did when buying wool online - I googled the brand and sort of got a feel for it by looking at different photos on different sites. It's still a bit hit or miss though!

Edit: lovely pics Orkney Star, wish I was that good!

Thanks- the wool is really easy to knit with and actually it is only rib/stocking/simple decreases/simple increases- self patterning makes it look posher lol!
I also think looking at a few pics on different web sites might be a good idea, also on more than one comp if you can, cos my laptop monitor was a lot different than current monitor!

Oh I'm still VERY impressed, they all turned out lovely! :D That was very good value, I was just looking it up and then made myself stop - I must not buy any more wool till I've used up what I've got even if it is gorgeous and even if it is a bargain. Wow, this MSE thing must really have rubbed off on me! :A

Does anyone else have a mega stress buying yarn online? It's difficult enough choosing the right colours in the shop but near impossible online!

My favourite yarn is sirdar bonus, cheap as chips at around £1.60 for 100g (inc postage) and knits/crochets quite nicely.

Some of the colours are nice and some are NOT.

Trying to work out which colours are genuinly nice and which ones look nice but are actually just a trick of the light.(

Sirdar probably produces a shade-card - it might be worth phoning them and smiling sweetly and asking. They can only say no, after all.
  • Anyone know of any Sirdar Bigga in Lilac going spare anywhere? I've got my eye on a bundle on Ravelry, that I'm just waiting to hear back on and also bought the last one from eBay. (Though eBay had enough at the time, I was too cautious!)

If not Lilac then 12/13 balls of Bigga in another (nice) colour?

If not that either, then a good suitable alternative for Bigga?
  • I bought the Marbella scarf wool from Lidl, but am having problems knitting it (think I might be having a senior moment) but can't figure out how to do the knit twisted slip stitch mentioned.

I tried ordinary knitting, but when you stretch the scarf sideways, it just comes unravelled !

I have been knitting for years, and can't believe I can't work this one out. Can anyone help please ?

I have started another pair of socks using the yarn from Lidl. I knitted the leg on 4 needles, but am doing the feet on two, The last twice I have done the feet on 4 needles I have had a problem with the shaping for the toe. I don't mind sewing the feet up.
    Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.

I gave up the spiral socks, it was driving me off my head. Just a long tube that goes on and on and on and ON with no heel to break it up and stop you going mad. Am now back on a PROPER sock. lol!
