  • Hi everyone, have made a start on my jumper with the circular needles and it seems to be going well so far, have even managed to change colours!

Thinking ahead to my next project....my eldest son is fireman sam mad and I have searched online for a pattern for a fireman sam doll. As far as I can see there was one by Alan Dart printed in women's weekly. As it was of a licensed character it's not on his website. There is one selling on ebay but it's going for more that I'm willing to pay. Just wondered if anyone on here happened to have it? I would only really want to borrow it as I only plan on knitting it once! I'm also bidding on a pattern for fireman sam jumper so finger's crossed as I think that would make his day to open it on Christmas!!

I just thought I'd add that the Lidl wool selection includes three x 50g of the pom-pom scarf wool. It looks exactly the same as Rico Pom Pom, they had a choice of four colours and it is only £2.99 as opposed to £9.00 or £10.00 for the Rico.

    Great to get a bargain.
A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

thrifty Silver's sock class is your friend http://www.cometosilver.com/socks/ takes you through step by step how to knit a sock on DPNs or toe up socks (I have only ever knit cuff down on DPNs but a lot of people prefer toe up and 1 circular needle for magic loop or 2 circular needles) there are loads of pictures and detailed instructions. Beware, it's addictive!!
    !

thanks for this! I am feeling a bit scared to start as my enthusiasm is bigger than my ability:rotfl:but will be having a look here and trying to get my head around it. :)

I saw this too but wondered how hard it would be to knit with it. ( am a bit of a scaredy cat beginner!) It did look lovely stuff and the colours were v nice too.

And here is a quick hat I made in 'Sirdar Snuggly' DK, shade unknown as was from charity shop (kinda khaki!).

  • Aaaaaaaaaaaarrghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Does anyone else have a mega stress buying yarn online? It's difficult enough choosing the right colours in the shop but near impossible online!

My favourite yarn is sirdar bonus, cheap as chips at around £1.60 for 100g (inc postage) and knits/crochets quite nicely.

Some of the colours are nice and some are NOT.

Trying to work out which colours are genuinly nice and which ones look nice but are actually just a trick of the light.

Don't want to waste my money buying a load of yarn for a jumper and then hating the colour once it's been delivered.

    Sigh :(

I try to buy in local shops these days, we have a great one about 15 miles away and an ok one 10 mins away!
Could you buy one ball and see if it is decent, then buy the rest ?

I haven't been able to find anywhere locally that either stocks that brand of yarn, or the colours I want to buy :(

I could buy one ball but then I might not get the same dye lot for the rest!

    Ahhhhhh

Unless you contact seller and find out how many of a batch they have ?
Sorry not to be any more help.

Here is the beanie- hot off the press lol! Might make a scarf (not on pattern but will be simple enough) with leftover wool!

Look at more than site - sometimes you get a better idea if you see the same wool in several sites. Then if one pic is "off" the rest will be the same.
