Wow, I've been away for a few weeks and can't believe how much this thread has grown. Great to hear from so many knitters and I love to hear about all the projects people have on the go. I always feel bereft if I haven't got at least 3 things on the go at once - good to know I'm not alone. Since finishing my Rowan RYC Striped Jumper I've made a couple of small jumpers for my boys and just finished an Irish Hiking Scarf for my OH. That was my first try at cables and I really enjoyed it - so now I'm looking for a pattern for a cable-knit jumper for my little one's. I've also made my first pair of socks on circular needles and am totally hooked on them. I couldn't believe that I managed to follow the instructions first time and when I turned my first heel I was so chuffed - sad or what!
Must go back through the thread and look for some christmas patterns - my boys are 1.5yrs and 2.5yrs now so I'd love to make them a knitted christmas stocking each to hang up for Santa...0 -
Here is a site that has free patterns. I got it from a knitting mag DH brought me back from the USA.

One of the best free pattern sites as the patterns are good designs. Some crochet.0 -

Could anyone tell me what type of wool would be the UK equivalent to Double worsted and 8ply
its for a beanie hat and they use size 10 (6mm) needles? How does a brown cow give white milk, when it only eats green grass?0 -
Miserly_mum,
I would think that 8 ply would be a thick double knitting...maybe Aran weight...6mm needles are suitable for that kind of thickness..I suppose it could be chunky either....try a test square as you should get the tension required in the pattern somewhere...as you may have seen from an earlier post of mine I'm not always great at sizing, so am using the tension square from now on!

Worsted and 4-ply are aran weight so it would be chunky or super chunky I think. With the needles being 6mm I'd probably try chunky. I'm a crocheter not a knitter though so don't quote me on the needle size!0

hello all, can I crash your site as officially one of the "I hate sewing/making up" gang! Have speed read this whole thread and have bookmarked all the sites to look at later! I knitted the Jean "clowns" a long time ago, the decorator was very popular and I ended up knitting a lot for friends for new babies cots, I embroidered babies name on the bib of the overalls! I did the butcher too and ad libbed and made a footballer in my son's team colours! Not knitted for ages, thought it was unfashionable! Got all my old patterns and needles in the loft, and even have some wool (threw a lot out when I moved but some I HAD to keep!) will deffo start again now I am sure. WHATATWIT could I have a copy of the scarf pattern please it is gorgeous (hope I am not too cheeky being a "come-r in" and asking for something in first post!
Keep those needles going everyone! Great to see some pictures too. Interested to see the doggy patterns knitted up if and when!

Hi Pash,:hello:
Welcome to the knitters thread.
There have been some great sites posted on here.
No problem with sending you the scarf pattern, please PM me your email addy and I will forward it.
Last night I finished my 1st dishcloth, I got the pattern from http://homespunliving.blogspot.com the pattern was posted on 2/11/07, I have only used plain off white yarn, as I like to bleach cloths and, in true OS fashion, it's all I had. Although thanks again to Seakay for reminding me that I can use up ordinary cotton yarn, I don't have to buy actual 'dishcloth yarn'
I will try and post a piccie later, when I have retrieved the camera from Miss Twit's [STRIKE]pigsty[/STRIKE] room.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0
