mumoftwins wrote: »Hi all,
I am not a very experienced knitter either! I'm suffering with depression and have just moved house, so I thought I need to do something - so when I was in Wilkinsons last Monday I bought 3 balls of chenille type wool and some 4.5cms needles.
Tuesday night I decided to knit DD a scarf so did about 10 rows, then for the next 2 nights I just sat knitting wtching the tv for a couple of hours, then Friday am DD was wearing her scarf and loves it!
I found it very therapeutic, but would now like to try something different, does anyone have any ideas for something easy please?
Go to crafts then select knitting. Your local library may have Debbie Bliss book she has 1 book that is for beginners.Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes0 -
I have been knitting for almost 60 years and have just made a huge booboo which has me mad at myself. Bought some Italian thick wool to knit sleeveless jackets (or whatever the current name is) for my two granddaughters. Knitted one this evening, without checking its size and I am sure that it is too small...even sewed it up before I thought about it....what a wally! They will both be 3 in February but one is quite a lot taller and broader than the other...does anyone have an idea of what size chest is "average" for a 3year old please...the one I have knitted will only be 24ins at most...I can put a contrast edging to bring it another half inch or so but at the moment I feel that if I had an open fire it would go straight on top of it...talk about practice makes perfect!!

Does anyone out there have a pattern for a baby hat (maybe 6months to 18 months size) that is a jester hat, i.e. the sort that starts off as a normal bobble hat shape, then turns into three sort of long thin triangles that stick up from the head. I saw some years ago on Liverpool market, knitted in baby wool and they were so sweet! I have looked and only found thick tweedy looking things that would be too rough for little heads. I should be able to convert the tension to suit double knitting but I am too thick!!!

Just seen that Debbie Bliss does a book called Heads hands toes that has a Jester Hat pattern, check out your library for the book
I'm sure you have seen this one and it is in aran perhaps you could do larger size in DK should work out http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.woollywormhead.co.uk/USERIMAGES/pjesterhat.jpg&imgrefurl=http://woollywormhead.com/page28.htm&h=256&w=367&sz=84&hl=en&start=1&um=1&tbnid=tVE0zpm4_0XmYM:&tbnh=85&tbnw=122&prev=/images%3Fq%3D%2Bjester%2Bhat%2Bpattern%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26cr%3DcountryUK%257CcountryGB%26rlz%3D1G1_____ENUK247Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes0 -

If it's any help my daughter will be 3 in a couple of weeks. She's still in a 22" chest, but fairly slim in build. Any chance you can ask their mum/dad what size they are?
It's so frustrating when you do all that work and it turns out the wrong size...been there many times...

I`m breathing a big sigh of relief. Last night I finished my third pair of socks. Mind you they are stunning and I made them from fabel yarn with this pattern
http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/visoppskrift.php?d_nr=100&d_id=17&lang=en
They work out at £4.50 a pair and are for christmas baskets at which we have a limit of £10 so there is plenty of scope for other things. Its a family thing that we started last year and it was great, really old fashioned and it stopped christmas frightening people with the cost
I started the men`s knitted presents last night and knitted one set already, two to go. I am knitting wrist warmers, ie like gloves but with only a thumb and they go up the hand/arm for 6". I am knitting them with 2 strands of merino aran in two different colours and on size 6 needles. I was thinking of knitting them looser and bigger so I could full (felt) them but they`re plenty warm enough. They are knitting so quick that I`ll be knitting myself some as they`ll be great for typing or to wear while knitting0 -
i have just received the wool from ebay that i have been bidding and losing others and now i have looked at the patterns i have got from recommended web sites and there are great junks of text missing as you are supposed to pay for the download. does anyone have or seen a pattern for an aran polo neck in small size suitable for 16 yr old DS1. if i dont start soon i will never have it done for christmas
ALSO
i need a pattern for a waistcoat with that fun fur/eyelash yarn for my mum who has decided she would like one for christmas so argggghhhh!!!! god knows where i will find that plus am thinking will that wool be thick enough for a waistcoat should i mix it perhaps with a dk. has anyone seen or have a pattern for a waistcoat. the lionbrand website has pretty sketcky details so that no good and i think knitting.com are much the same
SO ARGGGGHHH AM PANICKING CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TAKE PITY ON A SLOW KNITTER AND HELP ME ?????0 -
What size needles does your eyelash/funfur yarn knit up on?
Found this Aran jumper pattern:
http://www.dimbleby.net/knitting/mypatt/aran1/aran1.html
You would need to double the neck length or not fiold it over and sew it down for a polo.0 -
Thanks Ishtar...am tempted to leave it and just add an edging to make it just a little wider...Aisling is small and thin whereas I know that the one I knit for Sabh will need to be bigger. Am sooo mad with myself but will do the other one and see if I can find a similar sized child to fit them on...might ask for chest size just to be sure, wouldn't take much more than a day to rip and reknit.
Still on the scarf knitting job too...when I get fed up of one thing I move to something else, and of course have to complete at least 3 more baby jackets ( or are they still called matinee coats?)
Homealone...have umpteen Aran patterns somewhere...if you pm me your email I'll see if there's one for polo neck...
Good knitting to all

Hi all you lovely people who enjoy knitting:) I am delighted to see this site, and well done to you Whatatwit for the beautiful scarf. It is lovely. I have a real love for knitting and have always something on the needles too:) imake mistakes and don't always get it right:) and have a dread too of sewing it all up at the end. I really lack the confidence to do this, but i want to learn and so i will keep trying:) and am going to knit some wee things from Jean Greenhowe's Christmas Special which i bought recently so i can use up bits and pieces of wool i have lying about. Wonderful thread, lovely to read everyones input.xxDo a little kindness every day.;)0
