Just as well you checked, it is indeed a breach of copyright and intellectual property rights. I have a friend who knits toys for charity, but in each and every case she has had to get the author's express permission - even though she would not be making any profit at all.

If you aren't already a member, it is worth joining Ravely for just this sort of information - as well as all the free patterns :D.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks Unity

I did have a bit of a google too and there was talk of it being copyright but also of it being a fine line depending on whether you slightly change the pattern, use different yarn, different size needles etc.

I did actually e-mail the lady who sold me the pattern as she was the one who designed it and she has given me the go ahead and said she would consider it a compliment. All she has asked in return is that I make people know that the pattern is courtesy of her, which I can't say fairer than that.

Better get my needles out again :)

Hi all, can I join in please?

I'm a relatively young knitter at 25... I have 2 small children and work more hours then I care to think about so knitting is my way of relaxing! I have a number of projects on the go at the moment a few scarves for christmas with wool from the Kemps sale a few weeks ago.. patons wool for 39p a ball = a cupboard full lol. My main project is a sirdar cardigain pattern no 1864 for my daughter's 6th birthdya in july it is the most advance thing I have done and has a number of cables and slip st rib etc.. going ok but I hate sewing up with a passion!

I tend to be a bit on the loose side with my tension but never really a problem for the things I knit, most of the scarves are a made up pattern and I go until I've had enough of the ruddy thing lol

I am finding once I have knitting things up I don't actually like the colour of the wool I have bought it just "looks" different... anyone else had this and how do I make sure I have the right wool that will look "right?"

    Thanks

    *is another young knitter*

Hi, I'm 27, and I'm coming back to the wool side....My tension is usually ok, as I adjust it if needs must and nothing's gone wrong so far. Am partway through (on the second sleeve - done the back and front too) and need to learn how to pick up stitches from a cast-off. I'm also weird in that I knit right handed; I'm actually left handed and mirrored my mum who knits left handed.
I've got a jumper in a ball under the bed to do when I do this jumper :)
    ** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **
    ** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
    **SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.
  • I wonder if you can help me.
I'm sure I've read a long time ago that if a jumper frayed on the ends of the sleeves through wear, they would unravel it from the bottom back to the top of the ribbing, then pick up the stitches and knit a new rib.
How can the stitches be picked up from what is the bottom of the row? I've never unraveled something from the bottom so don't know what it looks like.

Hi, I usually make socks so havent done a cardi for some time. I`ve got stuck on this pattern on the increase row.

    here it goes.................

Using 3.25 needles cast on 89.99.109 119 sts.

1st row ( right side) P1,*K1,p1,rep from* to end,

    2nd row:K1,*p1 k1,rep from * to end.

Repeat these 2 rows 3 times more.

Inc row( I am doing 2nd size) Rib 5(7:9:11) inc in next st,*rib 2, inc in next st, rep from *to last 5(7:9:11) sts, rib to end ( 116( 128:140: 152)sts.

Change to 4mm needles and pattern.

Ok so what is happening I am not getting to128 but far more about 142 and after the initial rib 7 I am ribbing 2 then increasing all along the line so totally mystified. It must be a really stupid mistake but for the life of me cant see it!

    Thanks!

    Hi Jan

Inc row: rib 7, inc next st, then rib 2 inc next st, then rib 2 inc next st and keep going like that until you get to last 7 sts.
In other words after the first increase you're increasing again every third stitch until last 7 stitches.

I'm just about to start my first pair of socks so might need to shout for help at some point.

Does anyone know of any restrictions to buying a pattern, making the item and then selling it on?

A friend has taken to an item I made and said if I wanted to make some more he would sell them for me.

I just wanted to know if there was any problems with copyright or anything before I went ahead and started making some more.

Patterns almost always say on them they you are NOT free to sell the finished items I'm afraid.

    Hi everyone

Just to report I finally mananged to sort out my error ( thanks Snowball!) which was because I had increased by making a stitch between 2nd and third stitch instead of increasing into the third stitch! What an idiot I am!:rotfl:
