Would agree that a tension square is important if knitting something that must turn out bang on....I knit rather loosely but adjust my needles accordingly.

I bought some cones of wool at the car boot for the grand sum of 30p each or 3 for 60p.

However, the problem is that they are all 3 ply - if I use two together, will this equate to double knitting thickness ?

Charlies Mum....I bought some cones in CS and have been knitting them 3 together on 8 (4mm) needles and it seems to be coming out all right.....they are navy, sky blue and white, I am making a blanket my knitting strips 1) 2 blue 1 white 2) 2 blue 1 navy and 3) navy....am then going to knit a border all round in a kind of mid blue that I bought ages ago....a full cone so will be plenty for wide border.

Hi all:) I have just received my copy of Let's Knit and the patterns are so lovely in it. I also see workshop wonders, classes in different parts of England. I live in N/Ireland, so sadly can't take up the offer, wish I could. There is also a knitting retreat in France a five day knitting break:) All level of knitting skills are welcome. I would just love to go on that. It is great to see how knitting is taking off in such a big way, and that is is so fashionable now, and so many beautiful colours and yarns etc. Lovely:)
Do a little kindness every day.;)

I received my copy yesterday and have to say there are a couple of pieces in there that have taken my fancy. It's a shame none of them I will be able to make up with the wool I already have in my stash :D

I quite liked the idea of the knitting breaks although don't think hubby would be too impressed :rotfl:

Does anyone know of any restrictions to buying a pattern, making the item and then selling it on?

A friend has taken to an item I made and said if I wanted to make some more he would sell them for me.

I just wanted to know if there was any problems with copyright or anything before I went ahead and started making some more.

    I can't see a problem.

It would be a different matter if you photocopied the pattern and sold it on, or if you re-typed it without any alterations or amendments and claimed that it was your original design.

I don't know about you, but I never follow a pattern exactly. I use different yarn to the one specified. I make mistakes and just recify them as I go along. I make the sleeves longer or make the body shorter. Even when I'm supposed to making two identical garments from the same pattern, they are individual and dissimilar as I get more used to the construction.

Patterns are sold so that knitters can make them. What they do with the finished product - wear it, sell it, give it away, throw it away - is up to them, I believe.

Good luck with the venture and well done!

Just as well you checked, it is indeed a breach of copyright and intellectual property rights. I have a friend who knits toys for charity, but in each and every case she has had to get the author's express permission - even though she would not be making any profit at all.

If you aren't already a member, it is worth joining Ravely for just this sort of information - as well as all the free patterns :D.

    I hope this helps.
