As has been metioned many times on this thread, the deals you are offered depend to a degree on your useage, time with 3, how much money you make them (from incoming calls/txts as well as overspend on your allowances) and god-knows what else. At the end of the day they do not have to offer you anything.

Yes, it can be a gamble as to whether you get offered good deals or not, but as has been mentioned before, only you can decide on whether the deals on offer suit you personally. For me, I would rather pay slightly more to avoid any more cashback retailers going under, and to avoid the hassle I've just accepted two offers from 3 over the Simply3g fiasco, which will only claw me back £30 and with 6 month extensions on both contracts, but I feel it's worth it for extra stability and not having to put a disproportionate amount of time and effort into chasing up late or missing cashbacks.

Each to their own, but please try not to be too bitter and twisted if you don't drop lucky on the mega-cheap retention deals.

Yes, it's great business practice. What you fail to understand is the aim of a business is to make the maximum amount of money possible. Being 'fair' or 'nice' doesn't come into it.

However you wanted to pay the minimum amount of money possible, less than the published tariff.

You say that this is a thread about 3 retention deals. Well stick to the point yourself. Rather than moan about letting a deal slip through your fingers, stick to the facts which can help others. That is if 3 phone and offer you a deal you like, you have to make a decision - do I accept it, or do I gamble that a better one will come along, because once I put the phone down then the offered deal may never come back.
Condescending at best. Nice to see you are a business expert where if anyone was to read this thread they would get a good indication that 3 are quite happy to lose customers. I suppose that is good practice.
You may think it is a gamble if you are offered a deal and told that the deal will stay on file only to find that it is not. I do not. I think you have made your position perfectly clear. You believe that the deals that 3 offer are a gamble. Well if I want to gamble I will go to a Casino not a Telephone provider.
At least I can thank the majority of posters on this site who have shared their experiences rather than trying to be derisory to another poster. From them I have gained useful information.

There's only one way to sort this - FIGHT!!!!

Joking apart people, can we leave this now as i'm hopefully due a call from 3 after requesting a PAC and being offered a lousy deal, so interested to see others posts on the latest deals they are being offered, and i think this ranting and raving is putting people off as its gone off the track a bit. You all have different views, and thats what makes us individuals, so can we just agree on that and get back to retention deals out there.
    Thank you.

Ok here's my first post EVER on MSE! I've taken so much from it, its about time I gave something back.

My contract ends on the 21st March, I gave my 30 day notice on 21 Feb ish (my contract actually ended on 29 Feb, but I was too slow giving notice!). I have been ringing about once a week to see what offers they would give me. I have been with Three for about 3/4 years now and think they're quite good, never had a problem. The upgrade deal they gave me was actually reasonable they offered me my existing tariff at half price for 18 months, but could only offer me a crud phone, so I refused the upgrade.
I was pining my hopes on getting a phone call from Three offering me something good. I was starting to get a little nervous that I wouldn't get that call, until I was leaving work yesterday and my phone rang. I recognised the number from what people had put up on this board, so I answered it immediately! (knowing that if I missed it I might lose out on a good deal). They offered me this:

    SE K850i
    300mins
    300txts
    300 '3mins'
    1000 Skype mins
some other stuff but can't quite remember now.

All this for £10 p/m....FOR LIFE! This is the phone I was after and i thought it was a good deal. So I took it! Afterwards I regretted not negotiating some kind of memory card for the phone, I'm still very pleased with the deal though.

I am now a very happy '3' customer.

Thanks to everyone before me who have posted, it helped me loads in being patient and waiting for that all important phone call.

P.S I agree with Tuddsy above....guys come on, get on with it!!

    Hi,

I've just been offered an upgrade of 150mins and 750texts for £15/month (18mth contract) only phones were Nokia 6120classic or SE Z610i. What do you guys reckon, is this a good deal?? I've been looking at Sim only contracts with Virgin and T-mobile which are £15 mth and now I've confused myself and not sure what to do....They are ringing me back on Sunday to see what I've decided.

I haggled a new contract with Three at the end of January, using MoneySaving tips, ie get put through to their disconnections section. I was offered 300 mins + 350 text + new handset for £25 per month, which I accepted. However, checking my recent bills, they've only given me 150 texts!

As I send at least 200 texts per month, often nearer 300-350, I would never have agreed to their offer of 150 texts. I have a written, dated record of the conversation and I phoned 3 customer services to try and put this right. However, their record of the conversation has no mention of me being offered 350 texts, only the 150. So the customer service agent refused to do anything. It seems whoever I spoke to when I renewed the contract has shafted me one. From now on I always note the name of who I spoke to.

Basically, it seems to be my word against theirs. Do any MoneySavers know if I have any sort of recourse for this? Bearing in mind I do have a written record of the conversation with them.

    Thanks,
    Dave.

I've just had similar issues with a 3 retentions deal, and the Customer "service" has been equal to yours - with the staff even telling me that it was my word against theirs!

I did a few searches for 3 complaints on google, and found results for emailing customer services in Scotland, and the CEO of 3. I sent an email outlining everything that had gone on over the month or so that I'd been having problems, putting emphasis on the fact that I renewed my contract in good faith since I hadn't had a problem with 3 in the past, had recommended others to the network, and that I felt let down by the service I'd had since renewing. I got a phone call back within 2 days, and they've swapped me onto a far better (and cheaper) tarrif than I was offered in the retention deal to make up for the rubbish service.

    Definitely worth a go.

My 18 month contract is up next month and Three has been calling me to offer an upgrade. My present tariff is 300 xmins, 1000 texts, 50 video mins and £5 downloads for £15 i have a Sony Ericsson K610i.
I am being offered another K610i on same tariff for another 18 month..... although its a good tariff as cheap they say they can't reduce the price below £15.
Another option is to change the tariff to the mix and match 1100 for £20 and get a better handset but still not the top handsets. But that would be the same offer that a new customer would get so...... i would hope for better!
How flexible are they on upgrades? Can they do better?
    Kyle
