  • Doesn't really sound like anyone is getting a decent retention deal with 3.

My contract is up in November, hopefully iPhone 5 will be out by then and people will post some decent retention success stories :D
  • i have just been offered
    500mins
    5k texts
    2000 3 to 3 calls
    all you can eat data
    £11 per month

This is their standard last ditch retention deal. I refused this because the cost per minute after you free allowance is used up is quite high.
I was regularly exceeding 500mins and paying quite a lot so this deal would not work for me.

I took a new contract with three via quidco and got cash back (£160) on the iPhone one plan. I am very happy with one plan as there is no excess charge possible due to the massive allowance + tethering is free and now I only pay what is the minimum monthly for this plan.

Overall after quidco cashback which was paid promptly in 30 days it worked out iPhone 4S free @ £31 pm on one plan.

Don't overlook quidco cashback offers from three. Check them before accepting a retention deal. You can port your number out of three to any PAYG and port it back in.

Why not ask for that deal above as a sim only if you're happy with your phone? Or go to Virgin and get 1200 minutes, unlimited texts and 1GB data for £12.

There's no sense in signing up to a 24 month contract for Samsung Galaxy Europa, it hasn't got much resale value.

I believe that I got a good deal today from retentions. Currently out of contract with old SE phone on a £10/300mins tariff. Now got a new Samsung Galaxy Ace with 2 year warranty on 24 month contract with all you can eat data, 500 x-net and 2000 3 to 3 minutes, 5000 texts, 2GB mem card, all for £13/month. On top of that, Abraham from Mumbai was a pleasure to deal with and a credit to 3!:):):)

So they gave you Ultimate Internet 100 (£13x24) but upped the minutes and a 19 month old phone:

    Ultimate Internet 100 - http://store.three.co.uk/view/product/ql_catalog/threecatdevice/2428
    All-you-can-eat data
    100 minutes
    5,000 texts
    24 months

2 year warranty is standard on all phones under EU law.

What is your usage like and what phone do you have at the moment?

You can get (Essential Internet SIM 200 12 months.):
    200 minutes
    5000 texts
    500MB data
    12 months contract

    For £6.90 a month.

If this is true, how are Apple managing to get away with only offering a 12 month warranty on their phones?

They have modified their stance slightly now: http://www.apple.com/uk/legal/statutory-warranty/

That EU law only covers you for defects that are present when you take delivery, not for faults that arise after.

Dear KTF, thanks very much for passing on your advice, I do appreciate it.

The contract I have negotiated is actually my daughters, she is just about to start 1 year Masters degree at uni. As her course progresses she will need to find a job and will need the additional minutes that this contract gives her.

The phone plan we have is the Ultimate Internet 500, which normally costs £23/month, at the discounted price of £13. The Essential Internet SIM 200 you mention is very good but you still need a phone. The best price that I can find for a NEW Samsung Ace is £130, so your plan works out at £295.60 over 24 months.

Her new contract costs her £312 over 24 months but she ends up with her new phone, which although somewhat old is still very adequate for her needs and has excellent battery life, PLUS an additional 300 xnet minutes, 2000 3 to 3 minutes, a 2GB memory card AND unlimited data.

There's probably not a lot in it in reality, but I still prefer my deal thanks :):)
