Some of you are aware that i have been hanging around the forum for the last month or so giving a little advice to some that request it and perhaps have not dealt with "3" retensions in the past.

    I'm now just into the last 30 days of my contract, currently i am on the "Direct 1400" plan which gives me;
    300 xnet mins
    1000 texts
    50 MMS
    50 Video mins
    £5 of downloads
    All for £5 (great deal)

    I am now looking for a smart phone, perhaps the Samsung Galaxy S or HTC Desire. I couldn't hold off any longer so i rang them to see where my starting block was and here it is;
    Samsung Galaxy S
    24 Month
    900 texts or calls (combo)
    5000 3-3 calls
    1GB internet
All for, wait for it... £33. lol
    OR
    HTC Desire
    24 Month
    300 Mins
    5000 Texts
    5000 3-3 mins
    500 MB internet
    All for £27.
    OR
    HTC Desire
    24 Month
    900 Mins or Texts (Combo)
    5000 Texts
    1 GB internet
    All for £28

I have to say that if that was the best that could be offered i'd either buy the handset sim free, Ebay someone elses upgrade or change Network.
So.... I think it might be a long month but i know i'm upto the challenge and will report back as soon as i have better offers.

its valid for 30 days, after that it just gets cancelled and your contract carries on as normal, you then need to request a new one when you want to move your number again.

Hey guys, need an opinion if possible; contract is ending 13th November, would it be worth going through retentions now and if offered a good deal, just pay out the final month of this contract? Or are the "best" deals only offered in the last 30 days of a contract?

its worth trying, there are other people on here who seem to have got excellent deals with 3 months still left.
I, on the other hand have had nothing decent offered yet, mine ends on 11th Nov. Going to try again next week though!

Thanks for the reply :D I followed your advice and according to the customer service rep (who was very nice) I'm eligible for a free upgrade!
Anyway, went straight to retentions, asked for a PAC code and got the following:
Ideas? He's going to call back in 30 minutes :O

    Nokia X6
    £15 a month
    300 minutes
    5000 texts
    500 mb
    24 months

    HTC Desire
    £24 a month
    100 minutes
    5000 texts
    24 months

    Samsung Galaxy S
    500 Minutes
    5000 texts
    1 GB internet
    £20 for one month
    Then £25 per month
    24 months

I quite like the SGS deal, trying to haggle lower though, or is that the lowest do you guys think that'll go?

    Right, been onto "3" again to request my pac code and got offered lots of offers but none really worth anything as all either the same as the web site or 1 or 2 quid less. I kept asking for my pac code and just before she processed to get it she offered me the best so far (i think) in;
Keep same tarrif as before Direct 1400
    18 Month contract
    300 mins
    1000 texts
    50 picture messages
    50 video mins
    £5 downloads p/m
    For total £5 p/m
But giving me extra 2GB internet
    Handset price £240 (so £13.33 p/m over 18 month)
    18 months X £5= £90 + £240 = £330

    What do you think?

seems quite good to me, £18.33 p/m is not far away from the best i have seem on here (£15 p/m 18m).
Can you pay the handset price monthly or does it have to be a one off payment?
