It's not an 18 month contract, it's an 18-month minimum term contract. Subtle difference. I'm sure you'd be very impressed if your phone suddenly stopped working 18 months and 1 day after you signed up because you forgot to 'renew' it.

    Thanks for putting me right.
Just been on the 3 website and could only find

    Mix & Match 300 £15.00
    Contract length18 months
Inclusive UK voice minutes 300 mins or
Inclusive UK text messages 300 txt msgs
    Or any combination of both
    3-to-3 UK calls 300 mins

Doesn't seem to say anything about
    18-month minimum term contract

All I can see is Contract length18 months

Maybe it's buried away so we can't see your so called
    Subtle difference
    Thanks anyway:)

    Read the Terms and Conditions.
Terms for using the 3 network
n If you wish to end your agreement during
your Minimum Term (but outside any money
back guarantee that may apply), you must
pay a Cancellation Fee which will be the total
of the monthly charges remaining during
the Minimum Term of your agreement less a
    discount of:
    (i) 3% for new connecting customers who
are in the first Minimum Term of their
    agreement with us; or
(ii) 10% for existing customers that
    have upgraded or renewed their
existing contract with us for a further,
    subsequent Minimum Term.

The document is littered with the use of that phrase, that's just the first pertinent example I came to.

Been with 3 (18 month contract) for nearly 21/2 years.
Nokia 6288 started failing so sent back for repair. 3 couldn't (wouldn't?) repair it as it was out of warranty and had suffered from water ingress (IT HADN'T EVEN BEEN IN THE RAIN).
Being so fed up with the customer service (not, incidentally, the coverage - it's ok for my needs where I am) I decided to move and wrote asking for PAC number. Guess what? Following my increased aggressive demands for my PAC (they didn't respond to my correspondence) I've been offered 300 mix'n'match text/minutes (enough for my needs) for £5pm for life (18month contract) PLUS a brand new Samsung S5600.
PERSEVERE ASK FOR CUSTOMER RETENTIONS AND YOU WILL GET SOMETHING.:T

Well done - fantastic deal! Maybe you are a better customer than me as I use phone mainly for internet and texts, and my calls are 3-to-3 mainly.

After not receiving a reply to four emails, I phoned Three today as I have about 35 days of the contract left and want to move to PAYG. After trying to sell me the £15 SIM again (300 minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited internet) which I declined they agreed to change me to PAYG but then "just realised" that I would have to call EXACTLY 30 days before my contract ends. It is impossible to make a note on my account that I want to move over apparently and I must now call on that exact day, no doubt so they can have another go at offering me poor deals.

Phoned yesterday to give 30 day notice to change to PAYG (only so I can transfer my no. otherwise would just say I was leaving!). Well he tried har to try to give me the 'fantastic special deals available to me as a loyal customer-btter than those for new customers'.I said that certainly wasnt the case last time my contract was due to end. Didnt let him even give tell me the deals as already got the Hero on new contract when it was on offer at £23 ish.

Was amazed at his persistance but just kept saying no, I'm giving notice for PAYG.

In retrospect would have been interested to hear what rubbish he would offer!
If only I could stop finding good bargains on this site, I would save a fortune! :rotfl:
  • I have two '3' mobile contracts - I asked to cancel when trying to negotiate a good deal on one a few months ago (thanks to all you helpful people on here!) and it paid off. I got a call from retentions offering same minutes etc, new phone,150.00 Comet voucher and at just under half the price that I had been paying :)

I have done the same now with the second phone which was due for an upgrade recently. I got a call from retentions after a few days but their offer was nowhere near as good. I refused and am now wondering if they ever call back a second time with an improved offer or d'you think that's it now...? I'm wondering if they're looking at what happened with my other phone and calling my bluff.

    Any thoughts?

As a point of interest - I didn't get a second call so I'm off to pastures new ;)

My contract is now up and the upgrade offers are not as good as my current plan which is:

    750 cross network minutes
    150 texts
    40 MMS
    50 minutes Video calls
£5 music downloads Cost £21 per month

The best phone they would offer me is SE C903 which I refused, then said I should keep my SE C902 and go onto £15 p/m Pay as you go monthly rolling contract. They offered a few other options that were virtualy the same as new customers would get through ordering on line. 3 certainly aren't trying too hard to retain customers.

I've just called up for an upgrade and all they could offer me was my existing tariff of £13 a month plus £190 for the Hero (18 month contract), or the bog-standard £25 a month (24 month contract).

I now have my PAC so will see what happens but I'm looking elsewhere as 3's selection of Android phones is pants (ie they just do the one) and that's the road I want to go down, as I refuse to join the Cult of Apple ;)

I also called a separate number to cancel my mobile broadband as I use it about 3 or 4 times a year max and got through to the 'high value customer' Scottish call centre rather than India. I guess I'm high value as I never use the damn thing so it's free money for 3 each month.

Having said that, I'm vaguely tempted to keep it as they were offering me a 12-month extension, new dongle and upping the monthly limit to 5gb from 3gb for my usual £7.50. Problem is I don't come remotely close to using 3gb a year let alone 5 a month!

Tried to leverage this - "can you get me a better upgrade as I'm about to cancel 2 contracts?" but he got back to me after discussing with someone from the other department and said the £190 Hero was the best they can do.

No way! Dont accept that...They've offered it me for £150, but im hoping for it free on a 18 month contract, before mine expires.....counting the days down....

After having given in my written notice to transfer to PAYG, Three phoned me today with a contract offer which I accepted. A free Sony Ericsson phone (the C903 I believe, which is £109.99 in their PAYG shop) on Mix and Match 300 for...£5-a-month! :-)

My contract must be up as I'm due an upgrade. I had a call from a chap the other day. At the time I was busy but told him to call me back in a day or two. They called last night to get me to sign up to a new contract. I mentioned it was good timing as I have been looking into the possibilities of changing phones. Now I quite fancy an iphone (probably like many other people lol), though 3 don't do them :( boooo!

Anyway the guy tried to change me onto a 300 mix and match for around £15. I explained that was of no benefit to me and pretty much similar to what I'm on. Then he discussed these options:

    £15.7pm (18 month)
    Sony Ericsson T715 phone
    700mins
    unlimited txts or unlimited internet.

    or

    £21pm (18 month)
    700mins
    unlimited txts or unlimited internet
with a range of phones to choose from including a blackberry.

I am tempted to updgrade to a nicer handset and the mins look pretty good to me. I just don't know if I can commit to the contract as I'll probably end up wanting an iphone! lol. I had a quick look at other iphone tariffs, obviously a new customer and the mins/ txts bundles were all rubbish. I don't want to worry if I'm close to using all my allowance each month.

Anyway I just thought that might help you guys going through retentions. The guy is calling me back on Monday and I'll probably haggle harder with him and get some extras thrown in if possible. If it's a decent deal I'll probably go for it.
