heres my story...
my 18mth contract was due to end in feb 2010, so i decided to call up and see what offers they would have for me, after looking on here to see what deals you guys have been offered and finding out that they had the HTC Hero...
anyway, the current deal was £35, 300mins and £15 vid calling - which ive never used, and only paid that to get the Nokia N95 8GB, which quite frankly never worked properly from day one has been to repair TWICE to Nokia as 3 kept telling me its up to the manufacturer to repair the handset - (the problem was the 8GB kept quitting out, leaving me with a message to remove the memory card and to press OK - even though there is no card!).
so, armed with this, and knowing that i can get a Hero FREE on Orange for £35p/m, better coverage, and far superior customer service, i called up to see if they can better that deal, in order for me to stay with them.
Deal i wanted:
sub £30p/m min 300mins, ultd internet, 18mth contract and FREE Handset.
1st Deal offered:
£35 - 750mins/ultd txt/unltd internet/unltd 3-3 calls - 24mth contract, FREE PHONE.
haggled for at least half an hour, she wouldnt budge, claming she wasnt authorised to offer a lower contract length.
2nd Deal offered:
£25p/m - 300mins/500txt/unlitd internet/1200mins 3-3 - 18mth contract, £147 one off cost for handset.
I said, i'll take the deal if the phone is FREE, she said, she couldnt as it would be 'fraudulant' to offer me that, as 'all 3 price plans are carefully selected by market research', which made me chuckle as thenshe said she would give me 200 extra mins to try and seal the deal... i said no.
So, off i trotted to phones4u.
HTC Hero - FREE, £35p/m 1200mins/ultd text/ultd internet -24mths, £35p/m
AND have the remainder of my contract bought out.
and then within a day of requesting PAC Code, and initiating the 30day notice, i got a call the following day from 3...
asked if i had used the PAC Code, i said, it depends what yr offering.
DEAL 3:
£25p/m 24months, 500mins/ultd txt/ultd internet/1200 3-3 - and the best bit a FREE PHONE (because i was a valued customer all of a sudden!)
just out of principle i refused.
so my tip for anyone at the end of your 3 contract and want to stay with them, is call them up to see what they initially offer. haggle, get at least 2 offers, and do nothing.
then call up with 30days to go and request PAC Code, and stick to your guns, and get the deal thats right for YOU!
or you could ditch them and join a network with a customer service team who can actually think for themselves who dont reel off speel from some training script.
also, i called up phones4u insurance and got the £9.99 plan down to £4.99p/m (albeit without the loss bit)0 -

If I hadn't worked myself into the ground this year I think mine would have been around 2012 as well. I went months without a day off during the summer! I don't recommend it, in hindsight.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

I have 2 x '3' contracts both at £5 each month. VTT500 (300 mins, 150 texts, 25 MMS, 25 video mins and £5 free downloads), one is mine and the other my partners. I also have a £10 bolt on for extra 200 texts on mine.
Contracts due to run out next month so phoned yesterday to see what i could get. Partner does not even have a handset option for an upgrade and cant get one with no amount of persuasion (he had one free last time and remained on the £5/m). Im looking for the Hero (due to recently discovering Android which i think is brill and think everyone should discover) and was offered the phone for £157 and to stay on my £5/m contract.
I would need internet add on £5 and my contract cost £5 plus my text bolt on £10 so would make it £20/m then the cost of phone spread over 18m contract would work out at £28.72/m overall. So been up town today and in Tmobile store found out i could have the phone for £25/m with no handset cost, but would be on 24m contract.
Phoned 3 again tonight (was on phone over an hour!!) and asked for pac code and given 30 days notice to cancel. Hes now offered and i have accepted (makes me wonder if i could have got better deal if i had waited it out but im happy) the following:-
Hero £153 up front cost(£55 paid now and other £98 to be paid on Feb bill)
Unlimited Internet
1150 texts
300 mins
25 MMS
25 Video mins
£5 free downloads
All for £14.68/m. So its actually less than im paying now (currently £15 for the same as above but only 350 texts and no unlimited internet). So im very happy. Take into account the cost of the handset works out at £23.18/m. If you work that handset cost over a 24m contract though as would be with t.mobile it works out at £21.05/m. So overall saving £95 on a similar 2yr contract with t.mobile.
Just got to work on the other contract now, he wants to keep with the £5 but just needs a handset.0 -

Hi all,
I am on 1100 min deal for £20. Mine contract ends in Jan 2010. Few questions:
1. When can I negotiate a deal?
2. I am not a texter but a talker. But would like to have internet access only for emails and skype. Not user of facebook etc as well. The phone that you have - does that do the job. Would not like a 24 months contract.
Thanks

I've just did my upgrade online now
Sony Ericsson t715 on Mix & Match 500 - £5.38/month + £20 Promotional Accessory Voucher
I had a £8 Loyalty Discount from my last contract + the current offer on the SE T715 (25% off) = £5.38/month + free phone and £20 voucher.
I've called 3 customer support, but for the same contract they would charge me £18/month (losing my loyalty discount).
If you upgrade online don't forget to chat online with one of the "expert advisors" and they will offer you the promo code (£20 accessories).0 -
I also gave my 30 day notice today and was offered the following handsets on Mix and Match 300 (18 Months) :
Sony Ericsson C903 - £9.79 per month
Nokia 6700 - £12.79 per month
Nokia E71 - £14.79 per month
I'm not really sure if any of the above deals are good value for money, so I'd appreciate everyone's opinion on how good these deals are.
Thanks0
