Can I just establish, if they offer you £5 a month deal for the 300 mins/texts tariff, do you still get a new handset?

You should get a different handset although it may be a refurbished one rather than a new one.

I was offered a refurb LG Viewty or an SE 850i with a £5 a month 500mins/100texts renewal and if you read back through the thread lots of people do get phones with the offers.

Which phone you could get is likely to depend on your previous spend and how late you wait after cancelling.

I rang the other day to give my 30 days notice and i don't know if anybody else has noticed but the chap on the other end seemed quite 'aggressive' in his sales patter. He would not accept my notice at first saying that if I gave notice I would lose all my benefits, I currently get an £18 a month discount, I'm paying £12pm for 500 mins and 100 txts with a 6288. He asked me what I wanted and I said to pay the same and a SE K850i. He refused saying it was an expensive phone but I could have it for £21pm with 500 m&m and 300 3 2 3, I pointed out that I could get this on the website as a new customer, ok he says what about what your paying now and a one off payment of £120 for the phone this he dropped to £80 after a couple of mins, this still works out to approx £19 pm. In the end he accepted my notice and then told me that I would have to have my pac code now as if I asked for it later I would have to give another 30 days notice? I said thats not true, is it?
    I await more calls.
There are different departments and only one of them can give you the good deals. You need to politely ignore the poor deals and wait for the retention team to phone you, often in the last two days of your notice.

I think you do need to give thirty days notice for the contract and allow thirty days for the pac, or ask to go to PAYG at end of contract which needs thiry days notice as well. So its best to cancel contract AND ask for pac/PAYG at the same time or else you'll need to extend contract and then cancel it again.

The wifes contract ends on the 20th of August, and just to test the water,we've just rung 3,and they've offered the M&M 1100 plan, with the Nokia 6120,on 18 moths, for £20.It's the same as what's on the website,as I had the laptop on at the same time, comparing the deals, and he didn't offer anything out of the ordinary.

It's not a bad price, but it's the 18 months that was the stumbling block, and he refused to move on it,so we'll wait until nearer the time.
That's my mutt in the picture above.

I've been with 3 for now 4 years and due for an upgrade in August.
I'm on 750mins +150 Texts and the free download package 12 month contact paying £30 per month.
The best deal they can offer me at the moment is the same tariff with paying £25 for the N95 8gb (the phone I want).
I did ring them yesterday and they offered me the same tariff at £26 with the Nokia 6300 phone and a free memory card - 12 month contact.
At the moment I can't seem to get the best deals and I really want the N95 8gb phone any suggestions on how to get what I want

From what i've read here you should have cancelled already, giving the 30 days notice on July 21, and by August 20 someone will ring you to offer you a better deal. As far as i understand it you can 'uncancel' easily before your 30 days notice expires

Give 30 days notice to cancel, ask to switch to PAYG at end of contract at the same time.
Politely refuse the initial poor offers you're offered.

In the last day or two of your notice period you should get the best offer they'll make.
  • Hi just thought I'd share with what offer I've recieved although I'm unsure whether it's any good. Basically I'm staying on the same tarriff I'm on at the moment which is one of their old ones 300 mins and 1000 texts, a free nintendo ds (which I didn't really want but the other thing they were offering me was a ps2, but I'll just sell it on to make a bit of money I think), 2000 3-3 minutes which is ideal for me as my partners on 3 and the phone I got was the n95 8gb. For this I'm going to be paying £24 a month, is this offer any good? It might be worth mentioning that I've only been with 3 for one contract (18 months) and this is going to be another 18 months contract. I don't know if I've got a good deal or not???

Are you sure this was direct from 3 or from one of these "representing 3" companies that seem to be a bit, well, dodgy according to other posters.

THe thing that bothers me is the free DS, never heard 3 off any free gifts like that TBH.

No it should be fine. I got offered the DS too, after I called them today.

Yeh I'm pretty sure he started the conversation saying blah blah blah from 3 and I also rang three back up after I accepted the deal to see it everything was coshure and the deal was how I accepted it on the phone and it was. So was this a good deal do you think or should I have hung on for more? I just want to know people's thoughts because the guy on the other end of the phone said that there's a cooling off period or something and if you decided you weren't happy you could send it back. I just thought it wasn't that bad of a deal because once you take into account the value of the DS which would take off approximately £5 (if I sold it for £90) off the monthly cost which would in theory take the cost per month to £19.
