  • interesting post i never knew so much could befall a parcell , recorded delivery cant be a guarantee of delivery standard parcells get lost , but royal mail clearly state its rare, but not on ebay though?? why should i believe you more than good old royal mail ??? , you blame royal mail, then its the sellers fault if things get damaged why not royal mail i saw the programme of parcel carriers including royal mail stamping on items how can the seller guard against that ???, as i said im a power seller on ebay so are a few friends of mine i admit i do not get scammed due to the items i sell ie they in the main collect the item or i send out smaller by recorded next day ,never had one lost other the ones ive mentioned earlier , bought 100s of items never had one lost i do not believe im lucky , there are many scamms going on in ebay world , returning ceramics is the best one, damaged in post no not realy they have a broken one already and photogragh that one and indeed send that one back to you paypall award when it is clearly a con trick , many things on ebay are open to abuse and people on hear with rose tinted glasses thinking paypall will ride to the rescue are deluded as i said if the seller will not play ball .
  • why should i believe you more than good old royal mail ???,

You don't have to believe anything I say, but the facts speak for themselves.
you blame royal mail, then its the sellers fault if things get damaged why not royal mail

I do blame Royal Mail for most of the missing/damaged mail, I made the point of blaming the sellers just to make a point, like the one you said that if something goes missing then it's the buyers fault.

Now as far as your comment goes "why don't the buyer take it up with Royal Mail" as far as I'm aware we can only complain about the service, we cannot claim from Royal Mail for lost/damaged item as the contract for the mail service is with the person who purchases the stamps and posts the item. So our only option is to claim from the buyer via paypal and then in turn the buyer claims from Royal Mail.
  • at the end of the day people i think both side should take some blame each, paypall will not get you a refund every time ,up tp £150 or £500 from verified seller but as i said the seller has to play ball for the refund to come so buyers should be carefull as some on here do see, to think ill just get paypall to get my money back for me .isnt that simple

.......just to add something to the mix, soon you will not be able to leave negative feedback for buyers. :rotfl: :T :rotfl: :T
  • Well I was scanning through the forum and this thread caught my eye. I have just sold an item to an overseas buyer on eBay. I suppose that this is no different to a sale in the UK but there may be more of an opportunity for it to get lost. I have been asked to the send the item to another address as it is a gift. Now this request is not unreasonable but I am thinking about covering myself. I always get proof of postage. Reading the threads though this would appear to make no different with PayPal as I am not sending via a ‘signed for’ option. I do not suppose that it makes any different if the address is confirmed or unconfirmed.

As a buyer and occasional seller I can see it from both sides. As a buyer on most items I would probably want the cheapest option. Sometimes I see auctions where recorded and special delivery are the only options and avoid them. Now that I have read the threads I can see why these may be the only options.

I know now that the terms and conditions a seller adds to their auctions may actually mean very little. I will not add them to my auctions in the future. I think that a bit of common sense should apply with the terms and conditions. I do not mean that seller should be able to put that if items get lost tough. If however, they put that they get proof of postage and that it is the buyer's responsibility then this should be taken into account. Buyers should be offered the choice of insurance. If it was up to me if the buyer didn't take the insurance it would not be the responsibility of the seller. I know that only the seller can make the claim against RM but why should the seller take the time if the buyer didn't get the insurance. If the buyer paid the insurance then it would be up to the seller to get extra insurance or if posted normal post to cover the cost of the refund. If the seller did not get the extra insurance then it would be a bit like the car insurance some polices you pay out on and others you don't. The difference being that it is optional.

As a buyer if I did not take the extra insurance and the item got lost I would not expect a refund from the seller. I took the risk, it was my choice not to have the insurance. My reasoning being that items would rarely got lost. If a seller did seem to have feedback for a lot of lost items that would be a different. When buying items I check the feedback. If I saw there were lots of comments that the items had got lost I may not bid on the item or take out the extra insurance. Why should the seller have to go to the effort of making a claim with RM? If they did make a claim on my behalf then I that would be nice but I would not expect it.

Perhaps eBay should introduce a clear delivery option. You pay the extra insurance (reasonable charge) and lost items are seller’s responsibility or don’t take the option and it is the buyer responsibility (provided seller has proof of postage). In the meantime why shouldn’t there be terms and conditions? For online purchase there are T&C’s, not that most people read them. These are in small print so why should eBay be any different. Sometimes if I see lots of small print on an eBay auction that is ending soon I either take a chance or left it.

If there is not a common sense approach to this everyone will lose out. Sellers will not bother to sell some items because it would be too much hassle. Those that do sell items will have to charge silly prices for postage even for small low value items just to cover themselves.
  • Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section but it's my first post.

Two weeks ago on Tuesday 4th March Royal Mail posted a card through for a recorded parcel and a package as we weren't in, when my wife went to collect them on Wednesday 5th March but they couldn't find them at the sorting office.

We then checked with customer service and they said there was no signature for it but it had been delivered at 11.51 on Friday 29th February five days before the card was posted through.

My wife and I were not home on any of the dates and the card was dated the 29th, then on 13th March a signature appeared on the tracking website.

The signature is neither of ours and customer service have said it's suspicious but all they can do is send out a claim form, surely there's a better / quicker way to sort this out.

    Any help would be appreciated
