everything your going on about is irrelevent,
buyer sees good for sale, buyer buys good, it is sellers responsibility to give the good in order to complete their contract, it is their own fault if something goes missing before that point, if they are concerned with the item going missing, it is there responsibility to make sure that they deliver it in the right method, you are trying to push responsibilities onto the buyer when there is none! the buyer is not and should not be concerned with the delivery method (ok they should for an easy life but) legally it is irrelevant
the law is all that matters with this
yes there are dodgy people out there but if sellers are concerned with this, they should protect themselves, if they dont protect themselves they take the responsibilities that comes with that like refunding the buyer.
    Yes Your Dukeiness :D
  • This is my point why programmes such as watchdog take a pop at ebay there are things on it that can be done better for both buyer and seller , what i am saying the buyer like many people in this country these days fails to shoulder any blame just becouse it says so in law ie this is where we get these scrounging claimers are us type from, why buy something if you in the past have lost loads in the post??? knock on effect the seller claims through the post office quite right too he wouldnt have to do this if the item had been sent recorded and if ebay made a rule recorded only there sales would go down becouse the ones looking for there bargains in full knowledge they have lost many items in the past wouldnt pay it and ebay loses out no sale , things we have talked about on this site are far from irrelevent .

Recorded does not mean it will definatly get there, you seem to think if it's sent recorded it's escorted all the way through the postal system and hand delived by whoever took charge of it at the post office :rotfl:
  • recorded if it is signed for it got there , and as implyed no doubt tea leafs would say they never signed for it or pull the other old trck damaged in post thant will not work for them so they say not as described paypall pay out again on default.as the po say its rare so who do they think knicked it obviously the recpiant

Regardless of what you say, the rights and wrongs or anything in between.
It is the sellers responsibilty to ensure the buyer receives the parcel...and can prove it.
    END OF STORY.
Anything else is just hot air.

So by your way of doing things I could put in my auctions "I am not responsible for items lost in the post" then not send anything and say to paypal, I am not refunding, it is not my fault guv.
    What a crock.......
  • NOT REALY I WOULD GET PROOF OF POSTAGE ,
now i have taken on board all what you have said
i have ordered 12 items of 12 different sellers all around £45 none will be sent recorded delivery.

Yes, you could do exactly that.
Now whether it is right is another matter.

You are arguing a different case saying the responsibilty is on the buyer to obtain insurance, when we both know that is untrue.
As I buyer I want the item as cheap as possible, if it goes missing in the post that aint my problem.
  • I was managing to follow this post up until 67
which makes no sense whatsoever to me. I'll reread it a few times to see if it gets any better.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

    yes may be,
but you no as well as i most are bogus claims royal mail clearly state in the rare event so it must be true most are bogus .;) all ive ever said is buyers should not be duped in to thinking they are safe with paypall thay are not if the seller becomes awkward
  • recorded if it is signed for it got there , and as implyed no doubt tea leafs would say they never signed for it or pull the other old trck damaged in post thant will not work for them so they say not as described paypall pay out again on default.as the po say its rare so who do they think knicked it obviously the recpiant

recorded if it is signed for it got there
So you're telling us that never in the history of Royal Mail has a postal worker signed for a package himself and kept the contents? Or a recorded item has never been misdelivered? Just with that quote alone you have shown me you haven't really got a clue as to what the Royal Mail service can be like.
and as implyed no doubt tea leafs would say they never signed for it

As I said above, sometimes even if an item is sent recorded there's no guarantee it will get to the buyer. Just because it's been sent recorded, you deem the buyer to be a thief if he does not receive the item? You cannot be sure 100% of the time that the buyer received the item unless you're putting an RFID in every item you sell on ebay! Cause that is the only way you can be REALLY sure it got there if the buyer says otherwise.

Yes I admit there are some people on there that rip sellers off at every opportunity, but most of the people who buy things of Ebay are honest and hard working and I take great offence to you tarring everyone with the same brush, just because it suits your motive and that your trying to prove a point.
or pull the other old trck damaged in post

Well thats a good one, an "old trick" eh? 1000s of items get damaged in the post everyday. It happens, from a buyer's point of view if the seller packaged the item well enough in the first place then that might limit the amount of items that get damaged. Should ebay put another option in with there postal options "Request extra thick padding for this item"? When I have received damaged items I have always provided the seller with proof that the item is damged and im sure most buyers would do the same, after all it is easy enough to do.
as the po say its rare so who do they think knicked it obviously the recpiant

Hmmmmm... I assume your talking about lost/missing/damaged items in transit with Royal Mail. So just because Royal Mail say it's rare for things to get Lost/Damaged/Stolen in the post does that really mean it never or rarely happens? Could I just bring your attention to a few links documenting the amount of post lost/damaged etc. by Royal Mail.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=476122&in_page_id=1770

    http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-23377888-details/Royal%20Mail%20accused%20of%20'chronically%20poor'%20service%20as%20letter%20arrive%20late/article.do

I will quote from just one of the above articles.
"Britain's postal service is "chronically poor" in many areas with millions of letters and parcels lost, stolen or damaged each year," yep they said MILLIONS each year. If Royal Mail say that is rare then I would hate to see what the norm is with them.
