What is a Certificate of Posting?
    A. A Certificate of Posting is your proof that you have posted the item declared on the certificate, into the Royal Mail network. The Certificate of Posting needs to be date stamped and signed by a Post Office® Limited counter clerk as having been accepted into the network. In the rare instance of your item being lost in Royal Mail's network you will have to present a stamped and signed certificate of posting with your claim for loss.

The bit I've highlighted in red says that the seller, ???????

it does not say the seller this handed to the buyer will enable the buyer to make a claim .ALSO PLEASE NOTE IN THE RARE INSTANCES OF LOSSES ....RARE..... IT AINT SO RARE FOR SOME IS IT??
  • i havent moved on at all paypall look at all things relevent (or so they say) that is what i am doing ,to the sale of the goods but as i said take they easy option and ask the seller to issue a refund in the full knowledge not all claims are legit

Maybe I am unlucky then as I have not received 4 items in the last 6 months. So you would not refund me or replace the item?
Not all claims are fraudulent, maybe I have a light fingered postie but for you to basically call a buyer a thief is out of order and the reason paypal has this system in place.
  • you just stated you think ypou may have a light fingered postie so why him more than you ?? i would also add paypall system only works if the seller agrees to issue the refund he he refuses you do not get a refund becouse paypall do not give it out of there own pocket;

I said MAYBE I have a light fingered postie.

Paypal will refund out of the sellers account.
  • paypal cant refund out of the sellers account as i have said if the seller keeps the account low if there isnt enough to do it you do not get it i suggest you do your home work on this subject as you seem to lose a lot of items if you wish to double check on this go to ebay forum and read the complaint s with regards refunds
also if it was handed over at the post office proof of postage gained and gets lost between there and you who do you think knicked it??po workers or the buyer??

I dont lose any items, the seller loses them.
I just get my money back or a replacement.
  • continual non reciept complaints from sellers are monitered the same way as those of buyers .the buyer hasnt lost anything the seller has told him he hasnt recieved YES MAY BE ,ITS RARE THOUGH
  • ive just looked at my ebay sites selling site 6992 items sold 1 item damaged in transit 2 items lost ,refunded one ,refused the 2nd as he according to feedback had in 6 months lost three items in the post i aint going to be thieved off .
my buying account on ebay 892 items of which many were unsigned for under £10 items lost over 4 years nil am i lucky i dont think so ,

Ok i normaly lurk on this forum, BUT this post has got my goat up. So what you're saying is if people don't recieve items from, say, sellers on ebay then you deem the buyer to be dishonest? Well let me invite you in to my ebay life for just a moment so you can see it from a buyer's point of view.

Where I live the Royal Mail service is somewhat in decline. More than once in the past couple of years it has been in the news here that a postman has been discovered not to have been delivering their post but taking it home and hoarding it. One of them had tens of thousands of letters and small packages in his house and also in his locker at work. Royal Mail chose NOT to deliver these, by the way! Just before Christmas there was a load of post discovered dumped in a local river, including stuff from Amazon and probably Ebay!

Now nowhere in my comments will I say ALL Royal Mail employees are dishonest/incompetant (some of them do a good job) but over the last 12 months I have probably purchased 150+ items from ebay alone and out of that there have been over 20 items that I never received. Is that my fault? Does that make me dishonest? Or perhaps the Royal Mail service is in such a state they don't really care what happens! I have complained and complained and complained to them. The first few times they sent me a book of stamps and said they will look into it, a few weeks later more stuff went missing, and then a few more and the list goes on. We have had cases where what were supposed to be signed for deliveries have just had the sticker ripped off and then the parcel dumped at my door step without the postman even knocking my door, even though the parcel was small enough to go though the letter box. And yes, I KNOW they never even knocked the door because I was in the room and saw them walk past the window.

Most the time if somthing arrives in a jiffy bag it will be ripped somewhere; not just a little nick in the package but a hole big enough to be able to see whats inside. And don't even send anything to me that remotely looks like a birthday card cause it just wont get here. The amount of times mail is misdelivered in my street is unreal, I'm on first name terms with the people whose address is 100 numbers away from mine, and almost with a few of the people on the complaint line but no matter how many times this happens nothing seems to change. We get a new postie on the round all is good for a short while and then it goes back to missing and misdelivered post. Something or other happens almost every week.

I have been a member on ebay for a very long time now and I always pay with PayPal wherever I can. My understanding of the rules with Paypal and Ebay is any item purchased via PayPal should be sent by trackable means. Now if the seller hasn't bothered to obtain this then in my mind that's their fault not mine as the buyer. So if the item does go missing then that's still not my fault and tbh not all ebay sellers are honest. So with out any proof of postage noone knows apart from the seller if in fact the item was posted or not, so why should I carry the loss?

OK rant over sorry for hijacking the thread for a moment and ranting about royal mail but this has really got my goat up.
  • seems to me you need to rant at the post office ,ID MOVE IF I WAS YOU OR STOP BUYING OF EBAY WOULD BE A GOOD START OR TELL YOUR SELLLERS A LOT OF YOUR STUFF GETS KNICKED SO YOU WOULD BE HAPPY TO PAY FOR RECORDED DELIVERY SEEMS LIKE A GOOD IDEA TO ME
now look at it this way the buyer decides to buy something of ebay he fails to read the dispatch details in full he reads that the parcel he is so concerned about is going to be sent out standard mail , now me being thick here must be becouse i do not hand over any money if i see its going to be sent out standard mail , my advise is becareful paypall will not i repeat not give you your money back if the seller has insufficiant funds in that account YOU WILL NOT GET YOUR MONEY BACK .SEEMS TO ME SELLERS NEED TO BE SENSIBLE BUT SO DO BUYERS .
