I am having problems cutting my house insurance as I have a timber frame house and the premiums went up by 50% compared to last year.
any ideas what to do without moving?
I MAY HAVE NOTHING.....BUT ITS MY NOTHING0 -
We've just saved £160 by going from Direct Line to Payment Shield who are underwritten by Direct Line

And we've got accidental damage cover on both buildings and contents which we couldn't afford to have before. I'm very happy
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
F U Fund currently at £2500 -
I just got my renewal quote for my Buildings/Contents insurance and it was £228 against £180 last year. I went to their website and asked for another quote and with the 25% online discount, it was £158! Needless to say, I will be going to Barclays for £152 and I can pay monthly at no extra cost"0

I just got a quote from them (thank goodness I found their 0800 number, from the say no to 0870 site, would have cost me a fortune for the call) and they wanted £311!! as against £152 from Barclays!0 -
Try speaking to Mark Clifton at A-Plan Insurance in Newbury (01635 521818), he saved my Dad £140.000

Believe they are actually underwritten by St Andrew's Insurance (part of Halifax / Bank of Scotland Group) whereas Direct Line is Royal Bank OF Scotland
I find them either very good, or way out - all depends on post codes
Don't know if they sell direct as well these days , but was mainly a broker product - brokers product options include 3 months free or 5% discountAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -

...and MY experience was that one's monthly payment amount increases as soon as one makes a claim & loses the no-claims discount. One was also less than impressed with them when we claimed. So one has since changed insurers, one has!Expect the worst & hope for the best...0 -

YES they reduce any no-claims discount after a claim.
Whilst I can't say its been clear in their documentation all the time, it has been for a fair while- now in a Warning Box on the policy Key Facts
If you make a claim you will lose your entitlement to a no claims discount from the next monthly premium due.
did you not know ?
Suppose its something to do with it being classed as a monthly policy ( which has some pro's and some cons)
when I said
I was talking totally on competitiveness of premium, not service ( although to be far I have had no greater negaitive comments for them than other insurers I deal with.)I find them either very good, or way out - all depends on post codes
But suppose no one firm will do everything right for every customer.Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
I was just about to arrange cover online and they asked if I wanted Legal Expenses Cover which I do and I rang the 0800 number which is supposed to be open till 6pm tonight and they were closed. Has anyone done this insurance,if so, how much is the Legal cover and can you arrange the ordinary cover online and then ring them for the Legal cover or not?0
