Hi there, Just got my renewal from Norwich Union - £220, rang Zurich and they were a few pounds more but with better cover. Then got a quote from Zurich on line. It was 21% cheaper than the phone quote!

Hi,
It is my first time to consider buying an insurance as I am buying my first house.
Just want to know whether roofs, walls and stairs are included in buliding insurances or I need to pay extras for it.
Will the central heating (boiler and radiators) be included automatically as well?
Many Thanks

Buildings and contents insurance covers specified risks - which are primarily fire, theft, storm, etc.
It is NOT breakdown cover and doesn't cover anything to do with central heating unless the insurer offers this cover as an optional extra (and most do not).
Any part of the building itself (roof, walls, stairs) ARE covered.
Hope that helps.0 -
I've just wasted an hour on the Insure Supermarket site where they make you go round and round in circles. It's one of the worst sites that I have ever used and I've been using computers since 1972!
I could have saved £30 on my buildings insurance but the terms and conditions changed from page to page and then I clicked on a Terms and Conditions button but there was no way of going back to the quote.
I'm on benefit but my sanity is worth more than £30!0 -
 Ive just used Martins advice and got a quote from Halifax which would have saved me £120 pa but then when I rang to cancel my policy through the AA, which I pay monthly I discovered I would have had £70 to pay to end my policies with them because of the way they calculate the payments which was extremely annoying. They have, however, agreed to credit my account with £30 so I suppose I have gained some benefit if not as much as I initially intended! :rolleyes:0

I find that these sites are great to compare quotes but unfortunately can be expensive(as they pay to be there and pass some of the charge to you.Visit

Here you will get a quick quote. When entering your details see if by putting in higher sum assured whether your quote stays the same.Always include both buildings and contents insurance. At the moment there is free travel insurance for the family included (travel insurance covers up to 66 years old persons).Try and become a customer and get a further 10% off.I paid £161 for a three bed house near Gatwick Airport including accidental damage on the buildings only up to123k.Also 30k of contents cover and legal cover.Top that with a years free travel insurance for the family (europe only)Still want to go searching? Also I arranged cover for my elderly parents last year for £179.As they are over 66 now I have found that by going through https://www.bighair.co.uk cashback website (and joining). If then you follow the link to Motorquote direct (don't worry they do all types of insurance)you will receive £15 soon after you take out the policy.I was able to get my parents Buildings up to £200k with accidental damage, contents up to 35k and legal cover for £185 and less the £15 so total £170.A they have a three bed eot in NorthCheam.Of course this is just based on my experiences and up and down the country you may pay alot more.I would be interested to here any better deals out there. Also an update-I see that https://www.greasypalm.co.uk are offering £7.25 for you to get the egg credit card which allows you then to get 10% off

I'd recommend giving Barclays a go, gave me a brilliant quote which I compared against insuresupermarket and was the cheapest. They've got an offer on aswell where you get a year's emergency cover free too. I know Barclays aren't usually good value for most things but they really were for my house! I did it online got a quote really easily too!

I just did that and it was a very competitive quote, except that the Standard cover was the same price as the Standard Plus cover which covers Accidental Damage, which makes me a bit suspicious. Why have two levels of cover for the same cost?0
