I'll try to make this as short as I can.
Received renewell letter for H&C Insurance (HSBC via Royal Sun Alliance) Phoned for clarification on some wording, they answered my question, no problem. I noticed the "last letter" of my post code was incorrect and asked them to correct it. No problem..
Next day my premium had jumped from £574 to £686 Big Problem. Now I understand there has to be a rating for your post code, however I can see the houses with my old post code across the street. In fact my road has 3 different post code letters.
The upside to all this after taking Martins advice I am now looking at taking "better cover" for a mere £235 SAVING A WHOPPING £451

I have just saved 50% on my current home and contents and at least £150 on the cheapest quote through https://www.homeprotect.com. They seem to be back by Lloyds so hopefully OK, let's hope I never need to find out!0

Last year I bought a car insurance policy for our new car with Esure.co.uk, and having had no claims in the year, was invited to renew at the renewal date.
However, the renewal schedule sent to me in the post had a renewal premium of £373. A friend of mine mentioned that if you re-enter all of your details into the esure web site, they will quote you a premium which is substantially cheaper than the renewal premium. I did so, and the premium quoted for the same car and same drivers was £325. A saving of almost £50.
Questions:
Is this fair?
How does the company justify this? Surely it costs them less to offer an existing customer a renewal than it does to process a new customer.
Are other companies doing the same? My inkling is that they are.
Would readers be interested to discover this money-saving trick?
Is it limited to car insurance, or shall we play the same game with house insurance too?

The simple answer as to why they do this is that 90% of people just automatically renew their insurance - my parents and in-laws have been with the same company for years, it is a comfort as well as an ease thing.
I have done this numerous times - one time even going a step further and getting a L&G renewal quote, getting a lower one from the L&G internet and ringing the L&G call centre back with the internet quote (not telling them where is was from) and getting them to beat it. A strange way of working granted but saved us a small fortune over the years.
There are so many comparison websites now (https://www.confused.com et al) that it is a relatively simple process.0 -
Got my home & contents renewal from Norwich Union direct - rang them and asked if they could do me a better deal, they knocked £20.00 off my renewal no problem without even hesitating. Id already added 25,000 onto rebuild costs. so increased insurance and got 25.00 off. They are one of the cheapest quotes I could find anyway so renewed through them.
It pays to ask if they can do a better deal even if you were going to renew with same insurance company. Thanks to everyone who posts comps :T0 -

Please can anyone help me. I am trying to find a good home contents insurer, but I am having trouble getting information just for contents. I really don't want to give details many times to many companies about myself or the property. Is there any way of getting straight contents quotes?0
