It was a different price for me, did you click the recalculate button??
I'd imagine there should be a difference in price for additional cover such as accidental damage, try it again.

Forgot to say aswell that they let you pay monthly without any interest charges, which seems fairly unique!0

smythe wrote:I'd recommend giving Barclays a go, gave me a brilliant quote which I compared against insuresupermarket and was the cheapest. They've got an offer on aswell where you get a year's emergency cover free too. I know Barclays aren't usually good value for most things but they really were for my house! I did it online got a quote really easily too!

Barclays may be ideal if you want quite a high level of cover.Just tried Barclays.Note they offer very high levels of cover as standard.Mine came out to over £273 against a quote last week with https://www.egg.com which was £161 this year (accept these are quotes three months before I need it,but you can receive and save two months beforehand.Unsure if the emergency cover that Barclays offer free is as effective a policy as the onesoffered by Home service. If your light fails in one of your rooms would Barclaysclass it as an emergency(of course if the whole power goes off just in your property, then I'm sure they would come out.The small print requires someattention.I would prefer the free annual travel insurance that Egg are offering (europe only). If you go through the cashback websites in my previous article you could save approx an extra £7.500 -
I've just been to get a quote from Egg for my household insurance (buildings & contents), they were actually £140 more expensive than what I've paid with Barclays. I guess you're having to pay for the supposedly "free" travel insurance policy they throw in, although I'm sure you could get the travel policy cheaper by shopping around.
I love the Barclays policy because you can pay by monthly installments without any interest charges. They also pay a £25 switching fee if your current home insurance provider charges you a fee for leaving them.
GRRRREAT!

Glad to know you are happy with your personal Barclays quote. My quote with them was £110 more.Clearly the factors are at play here.As Barclays offer an online blanket cover, which is a lot larger than what I usually find,ie
£35k & £125k and they are doing £50k & £350k I am sure that their premiums
are better for someone looking for these larger amounts than someone looking
for a smaller cover. This I believe is similar to what Liverpool & Victoria do.But
their values are even higher if I remember.0 -

Halifax have the interest free monthly payment too!0 -
grandstander - did you ever get a response about your enquiry for help geting on to the insuresupermarket site using a Mac? I use Mac OSX and this appears to be incompatible. It's soooo frustrating when I see what great help other posters are evidently getting with their ins. quotes. Please, Help someone!!0

I just got my Woolwich/Barclays renewal of £346 down to £159 by going with Halifax.
Granted the policies aren't like for like, I decided to increase the excess and get rid of any accidental cover (let's face it if you have enough savings at any given time to cover 'out of the blue' expenses there is no value to it unless you are accident prone, it's a small risk - people who think buying a lottery ticket is worthwhile will disagree with me I'm sure).
What is the rule of thumb for flat owners, Halifax appears to be the only option? I'm not worried because I appear to have 'scored' in this instance because of their discount offers, etc. (unlimited buildings and unlimited contents with an upper limit of 'burglar-friendly' items, by the way).
I've seen people mention joint policies between residents. I've never heard of this, I'm not about to start dealing insurance with neighbours that I've never had a conversation with.0 -
Important information for anyone who's insured by Halifax - My renewal came through recently with the usual 'way above inflation' price increase. I used the insurance supermarket website and managed to get a much better policy AND save £120 whilst staying with Halifax.
I'll be checking this every year from now on. I dare say the same would apply to other insurers too. It seems you really are better off if you can put yourself in the "brand new customers only" group.0
