OS Saturday 19 Jan 2008

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for today. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good morning!

Woke up early and there was noone on this thread and I keep waiting for someone else to start but noones coning!!!

Is it ok that I started??

I looked at boot.com but decided against buying anything (so saved £25 as that's what I put in my basket!)

Plans for today declutter spare bedroom (with trips to loft) take kids to pictures (kidsclub at the odeon cinema is £2.50 per child and adult goes free so the whole family goes for £5!) try and meal paln for next wek.

Lunch bread and ceese etc and dinner roast gannon with lots of veggies!

Have good days everyone and catch up with you later

Back to bed me thinks xxx

Good morning furrypig and all to follow :)

Technically I'm breaking the rules by posting here as I've not been to bed yet, but it is 6.20am now :)

My lovely friend Colin has just chopped loads of onions for me, which are now in bags in the freezer ready for any meals I may make. I have been to Asda this morning and got 2 chickens for £6, so one is in the fridge for roasting in the next couple of days and one is in the freezer. I got 6 meals out of the last one so I'm feeling pretty good about it :)

Today is tidying the living room/kitchen and bedroom, and doing more of my DLA form in preparation for my social worker coming on Monday. Laundry times are 5-9pm and I have bedding to wash as well as clothes, so will be pushed to get it all done. Hopefully it will happen though.

    Morning FURRYPIG and DANNI.

DANNI - I like getting up and organised early but you take some beating, especially on no sleep!

Well, today's plan - as part of my drive to cut down, spend less and save more, is to list some books that have not sold on Amazon on to Play.com. Apparently, they refund the fees for the 1st ten items you sell in January. Then I must write a list of things to eBay. Hopefully, there will be another 10p listing day soon.

DGS (who is 8 years old tomorrow) and DGD (who is five years old on Wednesday) will be visiting this afternoon. They are all going out as a family tomorrow so will have their presents from us today. It doesn't seem five minutes ago that they were babies and now they are both at school - where does the time go?

DH is snoring away upstairs - he has worked really hard this week so I shall leave him be for another hour then take him a cuppa. I have loads of work-related paperwork to do so that will take me a couple of hours this morning. I don't plan to spend much (that reminds me, I haven't updated my spending diary for yesterday, yet). I shall just go up to the local shop for the paper.

I must also find another hairdresser. My lovely lady has closed down - I think it just got too expensive to keep the business going. I only go for a trim about every 8 to 10 weeks and I desperately need one now.

Well, can't think of any more news. I didn't get much time on here yesterday so will try and catch up with everyone later. (((Hugs))) to all who are unwell or worried.

    See you later.

    Morning Everyone

Didn't win the quiz (3rd from the bottom!). The booby (a bottle of wine for the table) was taken by four youngsters who were visiting for a few days from Northern Ireland. As most of the questions are aimed at the over 50's (majority population out here) they were totally lost, though took it in good part and we all had a laugh. Stuck to the diet yesterday so feel I am getting back on track.
I can see the west and south of the UK is wet again today, so ((hugs)) and I hope there is no flooding.
Hi GB we never seem to be on at the same time these days.
WM just going on - got two loads dry yesterday.
(((hugs))) to any "why me's" we all have those days. and they are not nice, just rant here.
Well done to DD & DS Anniebl.
pen-pen - is DH home safe & sound yet?

I will be sleeping in between! Going to tidy the living room and kitchen before bed, and bedroom afterwards. It's only a ten minute job per room.

  • Good morning all!

Donny - DH arrived home last night. He's brought back a Chinese cold :o and some interesting cooking ingredients. I may start a new thread later today on all the odd foodstuffs he's brought home from abroad :p

Pen Pin - so glad to see that you're feeling better :T Noticed on the Travel board that you're looking for flights to Florida later this year - you must be so pleased after mentioning here earlier in the week how disappointed you were to not be fit enough to plan a trip :j

Jocket - good to see you posting again :D

Listed my first item on eBay yesterday :j I'm using it as an incentive for the Small Penguins to get rid of the toys they no longer play with :j They get to keep the profit :j

Olive and cheese bread with roasted red pepper and tomato soup for lunch. Pizza for tea.

I'm taking DD shopping and DH is taking DS to football. DD needs a last few things for her Textiles project - it needs to be in by Wednesday. DS is off to North Yorks for a 12mile hike with Scouts tomorrow. Fingers crossed the weather won't be as bad as the forecast says :o

Have a great day, Penny. x

    morning all

Plans today are to spend the morning in the house doing some horrid hidden cleaning jobs and the afternoon in the garden weather permitting. at the moment it is very windy but dry so you never know.

tattycath - good luck with the visuals - I get a kind of a black line around everything which mkes the world look two dimensional and affects my perception of distance. If I get a migraine at work I have to lie down for an hour or so in the first aid room as I don't want to cycle home in a flat world. Hope you feel better soon :)

jockettuk - wow! you have done so well!

last night I made too mcuh dinner so have put the rest on a plate to nuke tonight. i would normally do a big shop today but am going to hold out till monday as there's only me in the house this weekend. Tht will stretch the pennies a bit .... hmm if I pushed the housekeeping 1 day forward a week then I would get a free week every ...... darn it - my resident maths wizard is at her dad's but you know what I mean.
This morning's yougurt, no doubt realising thatit was going to have the lumps whizzed out of it anyway, has turned out lovely and smooth and ... well yogurty - I think I've cracked this. i have bought a 25p tin of strawberries in juce to flavur it with. if only I'd known about yogurt in my milk token days when I used to chuck away the inevitable glut - they don't have milk tokens any more -dd18 gets a voucher for milk and or fruit and veg - much better. ok i'm rambling in a feeble attempt to put off discovering what lurks behind the WM

    have a good day :)
I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 2008
  • Good morning everyone!

I hope no-one minds me posting - I am a long time lurker but never really get the chance to post, but have bitten the bullet today whilst I am having a bit of 'me' time!:D

Just to introduce myself, I'm 21 and recently bought my love nest with OH. Since then, I have learnt fabulous OS ways from you guys, which help to save me a small fortune - always helpful as a young first time buyer to save where possible ;) !

So, my plans for today. OH is working, so I will go to Aldis to do a food shop when it opens and get my bits for the week. WM is already on, and dishes are washed :T . Also need to work through a HUGE pile of paperwork that has grown this week, do all the floors and change the bedding. I may risk putting washing on the line this AM as it doesn't suggest rain (but maybe that will tempt it!!!).

Anyway, enough of my ramblings. I hope everyone has a marvellous Saturday.

    Good Morning All

Hope the migraine goes soon - Tattycath
    Hello Atypicalblonde

Had a late lazy start here today, just had phone call to say footie training today & tomorrows match have been called off due to the weather, isnt raining at the moment but looks very wet.

Today will be washing and ironing and start packing, dd & myself will go though our wardrobes to see if clothes still fit - if so they will be packed if not put in ebay pile. DD will be pleased if hers dont fit - me depressed :rotfl:

Dont mind doing the ironing today -have Trial & Retribution on sky+.

Chicken curry for tea tonight and couple of friends coming round to play wii & pool.

    Have a good one.
