Same as Freecycle, all accepting/asking/giving things to and from strangers that they no longer need. Is this wrong too? What about buying a can of cat food to pop in the local cat home box outside Tesco. I gave my friend nappies for her newborn as she was short of money. Was this wrong too? What about donating for children that have websites and need it for treatment of some sort or for charities when you do not know them or do not know anyone who has had that condition. I guess the list could go on. There are always requests on the charities board for support and donations as well. Maybe you want to hop on over there and see if there is anything that you don't like either. And they are asking for money.
Support comes in many ways viktory, not just monetry, or is this the only way you see as giving?
I was not sure on whether to post but decided to. Should people want to help out though surely that is their choice and no-one is making them and no-one is asking for it. I can't understand what the problem is either tbh, I can only assume it is jealousy or something, I am not sure.0 -
Something that I grew up knowing to be a good thing to always bear in mind when you feel the need to maybe judge others is something that my sister has always said which is that you should never judge others and you should never withold any help that you are in any way able to offer them because you just never know the day that your previous actions will come back to haunt you when you somehow find yourself fallen on hard times and are the one desperately in need of help from others. I learned the reality of this the hard way just over thirteen months ago and thankfully found that there were plenty of people willing to help me pick up all of the pieces and fix my life out.Debt August 2007 - £38,204.58 - Completely Debt Free - May 2008 - Now Proudly Saving.DFW Nerd Number 684 - Proud To Have Dealt With My Debts:heartpuls Very Proud Aunty Ciara :heartpuls0

OK, enough is enough. I have had countless PM's from people offering their support to me - one even called you all a lynch mob. I am not the only person to have reported this thread either. I have given my reasons for being uncomfortable with the donations, but to no avail.
I have decided to go through the thread, find every post that refers to donations being made and send them to abuse. I will also send the PM received from Italian Tony, that clearly states that he persuaded MOT to accept monetary donations from MSE'ers to pay the deposit and advanced rent.
Abuse can then decide on what, if any, action to take. I will stand by their decision, even if I disagree with it.
Vicorty.. thank you... for bring this matter to a close.
If I choose to give anyone the exclusive use of my penthouse apartment in Docklands, rent free, then that is my concern!
As it happens I don't (unfortunately) have a penthouse apartment in Docklands.... so consequently I will provide MOT (or anyone else that I choose) the support that I can!
My choice... I cannot in anyway see how the people you refer to as "abuse" would be the slightest bit interested!
I trust and hope you will find peace in this world... but might I say that you are perhaps not going the right way about it!!
Sincerely, seek happiness not spite.0 -

Who decided to appoint Viktory as the guardian of this board? Or me and my decisions? Not me, so kindly take your concern for me and stow it away whilst you go off and actually read and understand your signature. You mind so much? You dont matter to me.
This has to be one of the silliest posts I have read on MSE. There would only be a parallel if the person suggesting the sealed pot challenge wanted to be sent all the pots when they had been filled. The people who put the money in the pot KEEP it.0 -
Hi Mot and Twins
Sorry I haven't posted before on this thread, but have been following your progress. Just wanted to send you all a virtual hug. Good luck with the move tomorrow.
To all the very kind helpers on this thread, i just wanted to say :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T
Will continue to follow your progress and pray for a very happy outcome

First Time I've decided to stop lurking here and actually post.
I'm fully behind whatever help people are offering MOT - practical, charitable, monetary - whatever!!!!
You must be a very sad, bitter and twisted person; viktory, that you would seek to deny someone help. If you'd read all the posts you would see that she is a real person - with links to newspaper article with photos.
I would also like to add if there is anything I can do to help then please anyone, just pm me. I'm free most weekends, I don't drive but I have a phone full of free minutes and a broadband connection even if I haven't a spare penny at the mo'.Noli nothis permittere te terere

Thanks for that KrissKross, It's meant to be silly for a reason. The whole idea of someone I dont know acting in the misguided belief that they're loking after my best interests is pretty silly too. Thats the point. (BTW with all the p.ms gone on on that thread how does anyone know the suggestion to hand all the money to one person hasn't happened......)
What happened to the DFW being a board of non judgemental people. This place has gone way out of whack recently. I would respectfully suggest that people who do not like a certain thread do what i do, and don't read or post on it. It's just an idea. A SILLY one I know, but hey....I am one of the 63336.'It is better to have lived one day as a tiger than a thousand years as a sheep.'

hi there, victort
re:- >>>>>And no, I am not going short of anything - but would not be stupid enough to give my hard earned cash to someone I don't actually know. And please don't tell me that everyone that has made donations knows MOT personally.<<<<<
Hi again,
I don't now if you will digest this, or read it or understand it,
I am not a christain, or that religious, but have you not heard of "the good samaritan" it's in a book called the bible, religiious or not it is quite a good read.
Have you heard of the ten comandment, religious or not they are some pritty good rules to live by, ie thou shalt not sh*g thy neighbours wife (or your best friends or anyones come to that) (pleasant as it may be at the time), bacause he may come round a kick your head in or may come and do the same to your wife.
Similar for the other 9 commandments, they are in the bible but are in fact just a common sense set of rules that almost all societies, since we swung out of the treees, have lived by.
And most of the stories in the bible are pictures of how best to behave in a society
Which brings us on to "the good samaritan" and "do unto others as you would have them do unto them!!!!
In a year my wife and I , even though we have to watch the pennies, give to children in need £30, the big issue (various sellers) £5 approx NSPCC £2 pound a month, cancer research £2 a month (my dad died of cancer and it might get me or someone I know) Various homeless folk sitting on the side of the pavement etc etc.
So if I wish to give to MOT (even if it is for her to go and buy a bottle of wine and have a pleasant evening with a friend to switch off and relax for a few hours) then that is what I will F*******G well do and you can keep your nose and opinions to yourself.
What ever I was going to give I will now double it, and make an effort to mention it to my friends so that if they wish they can also be good samarirans
Have a nice life
Steve0
