Several months ago, via a pm I was asked by a regular contributor to another board if I would donate to a life enhancing aid for another member of the forum. This I gladly did. The money duly left my account, but on arrival was not required and the offer made to return it to me and to others who had also sent money. I have also followed a link to just giving to donate to a charitable cause.

I am typing tonight having just got back from having settled my darling husband in hospital having had a scary episode this evening; he will be OK I am sure. On getting home (11.30pm ) my (fabulous) neighbour has fed and looked after all of my pets so my first act has been to check this thread to see if MoT is OK. This lady and her children matter to me, I care about them, they are not my nearest and dearest but I have 'shared her ups and downs' over the last few months. As a faceless fellow citizen I am glad to be able to give direct support where I feel public policy does not reflect my priorities.

This site is a fantastic social movement, enabling self help . Self help takes time to bring a resolution. Where there is an urgent need, by definition there isn't the time. I have debts, but also a lot of income. It is my choice to give support and gifts to causes, friends, real and virtual as I see fit, just as it has been my neighbours choice to help me tonight.

As a child I was taught the parable of the good Samaritan - tonight I am reminded by my neighbour, and this thread, that the kindness of strangers comes in many forms and we all need it at some point in our lives.

Oh for Gods sake! How many more times do I have to explain to you people? Do you not read this thread?

    1) Homeless issues are not being discussed - ergo, no need to go to DT
    2) My thread was closed but MSE Andrea said we could come here to discuss MOT - so here we are.
    3) I could have started a whole new thread and chose not to.

    Understand?
  • I too have been following these threads from the very beginning, i feel so bad for MOT and all that shes been through.
I havent posted before but seeing these negative posts really has shocked me.
Mot was looking for support and advice and she found it on here, i feel that the support she has recieved from other MSE members is wonderful and i applaud each and every single one of them, for the time and effort they have put in to try and keep MOT's spirits up and help her in a practical way.:T

Its heartwarming to know that there are still kind, caring people in the world.

I hope your future is bright MOT xx

I wish you had started a whole new thread and left this one alone!

cpsandman, I agree that people are entitled to their opinion. MSE has set up this board as a place to support people with debt problems. People come on this board because they need support, in some cases they are suicidal and so these threads are for support not discussion. The proper place to discuss homeless issues is in Discussion Time in The Arms. Viktory has come over to this thread because his thread opened on this topic was closed.

I have read Viktory's thread and all the others, I am not critising anyone and also understand what the boards are about, having used them myself.
I have been posting on these boards for a long time even when I was going to be homeless and I got wonderful advice.

To be fair he did. The moderator closed but not deleted it (it's in DT) and the moderator specifically asked him and others to move the discussion to this thread.

    Dare I say.

I have seen Julia in the flesh - she does exist. Is a real person with needs different from many of us. Majority of us live in our own homes, whether private, morgaged to the hilt or social housing.

Main one being MOT doesn't have a permanent home - very temporary at the mo. To me as a generous person (I do say so myself) I hope I helped Julia in some way - making calls, being there when she needed someone, bottle of wine, lunch.

I didn't know MOT before MSE but I will certainly know her for a lot longer after this episode is over and rejoice in a sucessful conclusion - i.e a roof over her and the twins head at night, to sleep in their owns beds, use their own bathroom ect.

To all the negative posters - Bah Humbug !
I sincerely hope you never face the prospect of homelessness and feeling let down by the local authority

On a lighter note - MOT - hope it all goes well this weekend. You know you can contact me anytime (I don't reply in my sleep) xxxx Angel :A xxxx

    good Samaritan
9 years ago last August I was pushing a pram up a hill, with a 3 yr old child sleeping on the carrier tray at the bottom. I am and always have been a very thin person. It was a very hot day. I had just received keys to my council property the day before and was making my way to collect a grant from my local social office. I must have looked a real waif that day. Anyhow a well dressed middle aged lady stopped me and pressed money into my hand and told me to go and get a cuppa for myself and a drink for my daugther. I told the lady I did not need the money and tried to give it back to her, I also explained to her I was about to collect a grant from the social. The Lady in question smiled at me, put her hands back into her pockets and said "Its yours now" she then turned and walked away. (The lady was not to have know that until i picked my grant up I was completely penniless as i had used the last of my money to get to town)
The week earlier I had seen a homeless guy under a subway, I did not give him money but instead went and bought a coffee and pastie from the train station and took that back to him. He said that the action I had performed meant more to him, than the lose chance I could have dropped by his feet.
Its true, what goes around comes around. If I want to perform a good deed to a complete stranger I will, and I will do it in what ever action I feel is appropriate.

That was foolish. Would you rather I copied and posted the PM onto this thread? Please do check with Italian Tony before you answer, as it was a PM from him that I am referring to. Actually, it is against MSE rules to show PM's on an open thread so, I could forward it straight to abuse. I think it proves my point re the donations situation. They can then make a decision armed with all the facts.
And so can I & everyone else genuinely interested in how things work out for MOT.

For the record, I usually appreciate anyone showing concern for me. However, I've been on this earth a lot of years, run my own home & have kept myself in good employment for well over 20 years without so much as a ticking-off on my work record. I am also one of the most cynical people I know. Though I consider myself reasonably sensible, I have made mistakes (like most humans), but they are mine to live with & learn from. I therefore think that I'm best placed to make decisions about my welfare. I'm certainly better placed than someone who's a total stranger on an internet forum. Whatever decisions I made in relation to MOT were mine to make, & I will stand or fall by them.

I understand the sentiments behind what you're saying, but I genuinely don't need your protection/guidance/concern in relation to this matter. In fact, I find it rather irksome that a total stranger would presume to know what's best for me, to the point of questioning what actions I may or may not have taken. I suspect other people here feel the same way. I can't stand my own mother doing that, & she's known me far longer than you ever will. So report what you want to who you want if that makes you feel better, but there's really no need to tell people here that you're thinking about doing it, or are going to do it or have done it. Most people really aren't that interested, because they're too busy sorting out packing, ringing estate agents, poring through newspapers, sorting out transport, labelling up.....
