I don't post much but have followed this from the start. Is'nt all this getting a bit 'political' ? Surely the point of this thread is to support MOT not to nit pick about each others opinions ( which we are all entitled to).

Actually suggesting black people should have a lower entitlement to housing is offensive and if it was implemented illegal. Not standing by and letting such views past isn't nit picking it's morally right.

Ok, stating the obvious I know, the problem is surely too great a need for too few affordable 'social houses/accommodation'.

Whomever is in need is always helped on by representation that supports and flags up their particular application. That is a given fact, how do I know because in my jobs (both current and former) I have actively pursued housing departments and officers in order to 'flag up' my clients case. Vey nicely I might add.

These are usually vulnerable young people and families who needed housing/accommodation whether it be hostels or flats or houses.

Having a social worker/probation officer/YOT officer/specialist worker can always aid applications. Not least as these people generally have established professional working relationships with the various housing departments.

That would be why to the layman it appears that certain sections of our society appear to get more support than Joe or Joanna Bloggs.

I'll shut up now ;) xx

Right guys, speaky outty time i'm afraid, enough is enough.

Please please please leave this thread to it's purposes, Being a place of support for MOT. everyone has differing opinions and yes, we are completely free to express these, The moneysaving arms in particular is a good place for discussion, on a thread where the original poster is already feeling down, sad and vulnerable is not the place.

It isn't a case of my way or the highway as some people have suggested, more that no one should ever be made to feel judged. There is one being and one being only that is fit to judge us by the life we lead and we will all meet him someday.

It is such a shame that several people that have had a real, honest, pertinant input to this case since the start of the eviction notice thread have been compelled to stop posting, the great saffronflowers for one who, along with floss did more for MOT then anyone could ever do, and gforce who has on many occasions been "the voice from the other side".

MOT, please draw support from the fact that 220 people have PM'd me in support of you, don't feel judged, feel proud that you have had that amount of a poisitive impact that they feel compelled to write and say so.

and to everyone else, let the bickering and retaliation end here, Please.

I for one found this very distasteful.... it implies that all these people have a lesser right to housing than other people:
-alcoholics and drug addicts need stable housing to sort themselves out, is being an alcoholic a worse vice than a debtor?
    - ex-cons have served their sentence and stable housing can be important in keeping them on the straight and narrow
    - different ethnicity, so if you are born in this country, pay taxes you should go to the back of the queue if you are black or irish or jewish?????
    - an asylum seeker, seen your family mutilated, raped and tortured? No compassion here then (some of them are genuine)....

I can't believe 17 people thanked this post.

There just isn't enough housing in the country to go round and so there are some strict guidelines in place councils have to operate under and are scrutinised under.

The fact you are all missing is that mot has been found intentionally homeless rather that not in priority need.. In all the situations highlighted i.e drug/alcohol addicts, prisoners etc. if they had been deemed intentionally homeless because of the reason they lost there last home they would not be housed either.

Housing law is black and white which is why there are major changes being undertaken in scotland and also why the welsh assembly are looking at ways to improve the situation so that local authorities can have some discretion in cases like mot's at the moment there is none.

IF you want to see change contact your local m.p or if you live in Wales your A.M. Let them know what you think and then perhaps we can go someway to improving things. As things stand there are too many people who find themselves in mot's position with vwery little options.

Ah Triker, thank you - back to normality!(And wise words from Teeni).

Yes, off to HA for 11.30am for meeting to discuss 'housing options' so I'll update you later. Also have spoken to my contact at CAP who has given me a phone number for Rentaid and I'm ringing them at the moment.
