I'm bowing out now as I think that I've outlived my usefulness and I've been quite disheartened by many of the posts recently on this new thread.

I'm getting the impression from some people on both threads that it's a disgrace that an 'English women with children, in her own country' is treated this way. Now that just irritates me, are you trying to say that MOT has a greater need because she's a UK national? Are you implying that asylum seekers/refugees/non uk nationals have it easier? If you are then I'm sorry but you are just wrong!

Please stop saying how awful/stupid/lazy/ council workers are - the majority of us work very hard in difficult and sometimes dangerous situations. I personally have been verbally abused and threatened by more than one person who didn't like what I had to say. We don't make the policy (which is an interpretation of the appropriate housing legislation) - your Councillors do that - (the very same ones that make empty promises like 'this means war') - we just have to apply that policy whilst doing our job.

I can't stand the 'if you're not for us, you're against us' attitude and that is the vibe I'm getting on this thread at the moment.

Please remember that you're only hearing one side of the story, I'm sure if you were a fly on the wall at DBC you'd hear a very different one!

I supported MOT and tried to help her because I believed that there were some extenuating circumstances to her rent arrears and I believed that her medical assessment had been mishandled. However I never thought that this appeal would be an easy one to win and I did advise MOT to plan for the worst, perhaps if more people had done this, it wouldn't have been such a huge shock to MOT when she didn't get the decision she was looking for.

I wish you the best of luck MOT

I can see this thread has moved on a bit since I started composing this thread, so it probably looks out of context now.

You do seem to suggest that the Review Panel came to their decision out of 'bloody mindedness', to take revenge on MOT for the publicity stirred up by her MSE Family (not fan club). Now, if that were true, wouldn't you consider that an unfair way of deciding MOT's fate and definitely not in accordance with the Guidelines? Yes, you are entitled to express an opinion; even an opposing one but please, try to be fair and speak from a knowledge of the details and background. I've said my piece. Thank you V for your contribution.

I will quote this although it is really nothing to do with me as it was Viktory who made the original post.

I believe that Viktory was trying to make the point that given all the publicity with MPs, newspapers, radio stations plus MSE that there was absolutely no chance that the council would bend the rules even slightly in MOT's favour. There were too many eyes watching what was happening and I think it must now be accepted that the case has been examined very thoroughly and the decision that MOT was intentionally homeless was upheld fairly according to the guidelines and rules that the Council must abide by.

    Hi

It's certainly true in Wales and also from recent mailing I've received, Ed Balls, Sec of State for Education has to comply, so would assume it applies to all MPs, whether you're a constituent or not?

I don't know what Jon Trickett is doing to earn his fat salary then. Not responding to my (perfectly polite, if not complimentary) letters, anyway. Maybe I should investigate if there's any venue whereby I can make a formal complaint.
  • To those of you that have decided to leave this thread, I am sad to see you go because you have made a valuable contribution, given sound advice and much support. SF you will be missed and thank you for being there on the day and being our 'note taker'. I support the view that we should all calm down a bit and if someone wishes to voice an alternative opinion then it is their right to do so. We who have full knowledge of the facts can draw our own conclusions on whether their views are valid or not. So please, on behalf of MOT, the twins and I, no more bickering! Let us not look back but forward. Let us remain a happy MSE Family. Thanks.

And I took on board what you said Gforce - I said in a text to Floss at lunchtime last Thursday that I really felt that I wasn't going to 'win' the appeal due to the council not taking into account medical evidence, so I was prepared, but after such a long wait for all the evidence to be gathered and the appeal to be heard, all the tension of the last few weeks got too much and I broke down. In some ways it is now a relief to know that I have to look elsewhere and that it won't be long before we are settled in a new home.

Thank you Gforce for your invaluable advice and support, and to you too Saffronflowers for your unstinting hard work xx

I have received a reply from Mike Penning saying he could reply by phone or post so can he have my address, but it was addressed to my husband not me who emailed him. I have replied that I would prefer an email reply so will not be sending my postal address. I also pointed out it should be me not my husband he replys to.
I hope like me you are all on tenterhooks awaiting his missive!!!
