I have noticed that HSBC have charged me £25 for accidentally going over my overdraft limit. They debited it on 30/09/07 when I accidentally went over on 19th August. When I rang up the said that it was an 'Informal Overdraft Request' and basically to lump it. Is there nothing I can do about this?

I think you will find this was mentioned in a recent leaflet on new charges and is part of the banks defence to the OFT case. They are trying to show that they have provided a service. I am not sure if it works were you informed of the new fee structure?

  • Just wondering if anyone can advise me. When sending a letter to the bank, be it HSBC or otherwise, where do I send it? Does it go to HSBC head office or to my holding branch, or doesn't it matter?

    Cheers,

by any chance i can get my 25GBP back? I had rang and they said is my fault and i got to pay the charge.

I am new to this, so hope someone can help me.

  • Hi All

A bit of advice please. Am bit of a Nnervous Neville about claiming my charges back from HSBC! I bank with them but also have a credit card with them too. I am probably going to hold fire on claiming back my bank charges until after the test case.

However, I presume this does not affect my claim for charges on my HSBC credit card and can still pursue this. Would HSBC then close my credit card account? I do have an outstanding balance on this card and could not afford to pay this off in one go. Also, would claiming my cc charges affect my HSBC bank account in anyway? Could HSBC get the ump and close this too?

    Any advice much appreciated!

    Hi there,

I was fortunate enough to reclaim bank charges from both of my HSBC current accounts just a couple of days before the 'test case news' came through.

Since then, I have retained both accounts, and also my overdrafts on each account. I would honestly think that your claim to the credit card should make no difference whatsoever to your current account, and would say that it's unlikely that they would require you to pay back your credit card balance.

My advice is go for it!

    Hope this helps!!
  • Ive tried twice now and they are digging thier heels in, they have removed my overdraft and now looking at closing the account i think

Its like trying to get blood out of a stone with them, IME the worst Ive had to deal with yet.

Yes i totally agree, they are an absolute nightmare!!!!! they will not accept the hardship ruling!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is despite FOS intervention (who im not impressed with either)!!
  • I have been paid out on one claim from one HSBC account i have, but have had a letter regarding the second account claim saying it`s on hold pending test case. Both claims were started at the same time, (although accounts are with two different branches), How can they pay out on one and put the other on hold. Surely they have set a precedent by paying out on the first one ? Can i press them on this point ?
