_pale_ OOh, I just calculated my charges from HSBC for the last 6 years, and am going to send the letter in the morning to reclaim £4504.11...wish me luck..I am so not going to give up on this, the bailiffs came round yesterday to collect money for unpaid Council Tax and I have been terrified ever since as I live on my own...so if I can get this one victory over the bank it will definitely help.
debt is an albatross.....It's not a bargain if you don't need it... :idea:0 -
Hi Willowbob,
i had an account with HSBC for years and have decided today to claim back all the charges. Adds up to around the same amount as yours.
That figure alone would clear about 95% of all my debt!
Good luck. xTotal debt at LB Moment (Nov 2007) = £6583 £4649 20.03.09
£5060 Black horse Loan - £4114 as of 20.03.09
£940 o/d with hsbc - -£535 as of 20.03.090 -
Hi 4littleone,
I'm not normally at home, but the stress of all this worrying has got me off work with a crushing headache..but I used the time productively to contact the Council Tax people and try to stave off the bailiffs...I hope it works..It's not a bargain if you don't need it... :idea:0 -
I have banked with HSBC for seven years and was offered an overdraft on opening the account, I have always had this facility.
I have just received a letter from them stating that they have decided to withdraw my £900 overdraft facility from the 5th December and from this date my account is to be operated in credit at all times...........
HELP!!!!!!! Would this be because i tried to re-claim my bank charges in August??????0 -
I know that there is this OFT thing going on where the banks are saying that all cases are currently on hold but I'm sure I saw Martin recently on LK Today saying that the banks were lying and that you can still reclaim. Did I get it wrong or was I dreaming? I have recently written a letter to HSBC asking for £217 in charges that they owe me but of course they have written back saying that it is currently on hold. Can I go further and send the letter threatening that I will take them to court?
Please help! It would be nice to have a bit of extra money before xmas!

Agree with what you are saying as I too have heard the same thing, but surely a bank can always say this is on hold for now. that is there choice, but if you aproach a small claims court, the law would be still in limbo and then they would have no choice but to act on this and rule on either side taking into account the current law??? the courts cannot say its on hold until the law is changed can they?? I would not have thought so. I really want to claim back and it is £000's and I have a default on my account which I think they should also get rid of for me, they also acted badly as When I went to see the bank to sort it out, they said they could not help. I think that it not very proffesional for a start and they should have tried to help as I now know there are ways to help yourself when in trouble and my own bank did not really care. Abbey national by the way.

My sons bank HSBC made him an offer of reclaimed bank charges which he accepted, but then all claims went onto hold where they currently are now, his bank then informed him that they were not legally bound to pay him although an agreement had been made. having read the bank charge reclaiming article, this seems not to be the case, does anyone know whether his claim should have been settled after ageement was struck, or is the bank acting legally by not paying out? i'm confused0
