Thanks for that, it's certainly something I shall have to keep an eye on. Are you still with A&L?
I have banked with HSBC for years and only really had probs over last couple, but it's the fact that you can't easily talk to anyone that's always got me.....
We'll see how it goes, but thanks for letting me know!0 -

Hi all, just checked the bank and guess what....... no money!!!
After sending an e-message to them yesterday asking for them to confirm that the money would be there today, I received this message instead:
Thank you for your e-message dated 9 August 2007.
I confirm that we have received the signed acceptance letter on 27 July 2007. However we need to advise you of the current position.
The Bank and and several other banks have become involved in legal proceedings with the Office of Fair Trading about bank charges, which we believe will resolve the legal issues on the fairness and legality of your bank charges.
This is called a 'test case' and is expected to last more than a year.
The goodwill offer made to you still stands and you can reconsider whether to accept or reject this offer. Please be aware that should this offer is accepted, it will be the full and final settlement of your complaint. No further refunds will be made in respect of charges levied in accordance with our standard tariff.
A letter advising thoroughly about this matter has been sent to your correspondence address on 8 August 2007.
If this is agreeable, I would appreciate if you could again sign and return this letter. I apologise for any inconvenience caused and regret that we were unable to proceed with the refund until you have been informed about this.
Meanwhile, I trust this clarifies matters.
Great huh?? So now I've got to wait for another letter, then sign it and send it back, then wait again for the money to go into my account - I am bloody fuming!!!
Right gotta go to work now - just thought I'd let you know that I am Self Combusting as I type............0 -
hi
if youve signed an acceptance already that forms a contract. surely if they dont pay you can go to the FO to make them pay? would like to see the new wording theyve come up with.
im still with A&L as i havnt had time to find a new bank but when i have more time i will be looking again. running out of new banks tho :-)
tried halifax natwest A&L HSBC all as bad as each other really. I recon the next 3 years they will come up with even more inventive ways of entrapping customers into charges too.claimed/settled - Natwest £2,535/£2,535, HSBC visa £80/£80, MBNA £1,258/£1,258, capital one £282/£282, tesco visa £515/£515, HSBC visa £140/£140. HSBC £1,450 MCOL Stayed for OFT case. Chelsea Mortgage charges & cashback £5000/£672. complaints with banks pending OFT Halifax £30, A&L £35. TOTALS £11,325/£54820 -

Can't believe that! What is wrong with them? More stalling tactics! I'm sure they read this, laughing at us all self combusting!Don't sound right to me, you've already signed, so that forms the contract between you and the bank! Maybe you could ring the FO just to ask their advise.
Hope you get it sorted & you're not combusting with me the next few weeks!

Hi Jolly Hun,
You never guess what the same thing has happened to me aswell!!!! i sent my acceptance for my offer back and it was logged on their system 7th august 07, they have told me they are sending another acceptance for me to sign with new wording on it!!!
I was fuming too!!!!
it`s so annoying that its took us so long to get the offer in the first place then to be told after you have agreed the offer that they have to send a new acceptance!
totally stalling again!!!! what a surprise!
Still havn`t received the first offer letter that they said they had sent on 21st July LMAO
I have to laugh really cause im going to explode otherwise!!!
Hopefully we`ll both get this sorted around the same time.
Good Luck Hun Bingobella xxxxx0 -
Dear all.
First of all many thanks to everyone behind this site - it is wonderful!
We have been offered a settlement by HSBC for £3,600, we have accepted but have been told today that as our letter of acceptance didn't back to them until the 6th August that we will now have to wait until the test case......they are saying that because of the postal strike our letter was to late. We sent it back to them on the 30th July - over a week earlier.
Some else said at the bank that no, we should still be able to claim it back as an offer was made - as Martin has stated on this website - I am now completely confussed and concerned.
As you can see this isn't small money to us so I am now completely worried about this and it is stressing me.
Can anyone help put my mind at rest?
Thank you to all.
