:hello: fairylights :hello:
you've come to the right place!0 -
Welcome fairylights! Since finding OS, I've rarely poked my nose out at the rest of the site! Enjoy! Sounds as though you're a fair bit of the way along an OS road already!0

On here for a break while I have a cup-a-soup (own brand Asda one that was reduced though
) for my dinner after getting soaked through to the skin when I went to pick DD up. When I was about to leave the house it was "spitting" so I only picked DD's umbrella up (she hates walking in the rain, even if it is just spitting!) as I thought I would be fine. I got to the bottom of the street and the heavens opened :mad: I didn't have time to double back, find my umbrella which had fallen off the hook and landed somewhere near the back of the understairs cupboard or grab my coat which was upstairs in DD's wardrobe so I put DD's umbrella up and managed to run to the post box and then to the nursery looking like a right idiot with a Disney Princess umbrella that was obviously for a kid up while trying to keep dry
:rotfl:When DD came out she grabbed the umbrella and then we had to "jog" back home (I kept slipping on the cobbles/curb due to worn out now non-grip trainers - I really need to either wear my hiking boots or get some more trainers for when it rains!). When I got in I was soaked ALL the way through. Managed to get DD up to her room without soaking the place and get her changed. I then changed into my PJs while I cooled down but managed to fall asleep for an hour while laying on the bed reading my book which I decided to do while I cooled down. Only woke up when my mum rang to ask if I thought OH could run an errand for my sister on his way home from work
I am so tired, but I really need to do some baking and dish-washing. Laundry will have to wait as it's still raining on and off :mad:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
fairylights wrote:I'm very new - have posted twice on the whole site so far, but you guys seem so friendly! I think I've found OS blood in my veins, and want to learn from you all!
Hello  well i've ventured out there into the big bad land of  "other forums" - and i won't be going out again. at least not without my giant invisible rabbit
Today I have bitten the bullet and filled in the application form (well most of) for that very well paid job at the uni. Tonight i will be doing the "sell yourself" bit which, and I know you will all find this difficult to believe, I always have great difficulty with. I will keep you posted as to how I get one...... it would be really good to get as 2.5 hours extra per week would equal a doubling of my wages!!!! bit of a no-brainer really.
and tonight i am cleaning the shelf in the kitchen so bread maker can live there........ this morning OH burnt my toast  so i put it out on the garden table for the birdies - we have baby robins parked in our garden now (they have filled the space vacated by Mr and Mrs Blackbird and their brood) as well as all the sparrows having dust baths - derek my budgie is gonig mad at birdies in "his" garden........ loon........ :rotfl:But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green0 -
afternoon all... work again today so no O/S other than my packed lunch
I brought in some of the chocolate muffins I made yesterday to share with my team and they went down a storm which was rather gratifying... just a flying visit now to say hi.. hopefully I'll be less manic tommorrow and I can catch up with you all then!Pre O/S: what's a vitamin? Does it begin with the letter e?Now: I'm not eating any of that pre-made rubbish...0 -
Afternoon all.
Just typed out what I've been up to today and my ISP logged me off or whatever it does. I'm getting seriously sick of AOL but need to convince Mr TM to give up his e mail addy
So, - today - cleaning and shopping for parents. However, I have been asked to sell my mum's brand new over-locking machine and she's said I can keep the profits
Tea was easy - left over beef in gravy with rice and veggies then HM raspberry and apple pie with ice cream. Mr TM even thought .......how can I say it.....that I'd BOUGHT the pie!!!!!
Not been feeling 100% today. I think I have an ear infection - lots of tinitus and a feeling of sludge in my head. To top that, DS2 headbutted me as hard as he could (accidentally) right on the bridge of my nose. So, tonight, I shall mostly be wearing arnica gel on a swollen nose, with complimentary black eye. Am waiting to see if I get 2 black eyes - that would just be the icing on the cake!
Off to do a bit of quiet surfing. Then I think I shall retire early tonight and get some much needed kip. If DS1 wakes me up in the middle of the night, I think I'll make him spend the rest of the night sleeping in the summer house !!
Have a good one

Evening all.
My day got a lot better as it progressed. OH was offered a cottage in Devon for four days next week for £150 because someone at work had to cancel. It's got a pool etc and should have cost £700. Hooray! Went to Asda and got a good OS shop, and Boots had some good reduced stuff that I always use. Then came home and made Nigella's little Lemon fairy cakes from the Waitrose mag. They are very nice, if I say so myself. Don't know what is for supper - probably nothing as we have stuffed ourselves on the fairy cakes!!
Double corro tonight - yipee!
Enjoy your evening.0 -
Hello, This is the first time I have posted on here. Been lurking for ages and learning all the best ways of OS'ing. Now I have dusted my breadmaker off, bought a slow cooker and have the vinegar on standby! Done loads of washing today, but had to resort to using the tumble drier for the first time in ages (since getting hooked on this site!) as it's been spitting most of the day.
I'm fed up now with old debts hanging around my neck! We were stupidly spending needlessly before I found this site. Infact, our shopping bill alone came to something ridiculous like £650 for a five week month for 2 Adults, 2 Boys and a dog! Looks like I might have halved that this month thanks to you guys! I'm not giving up hope on slimming that down yet either!
We have a decent income between us but never seem to have money to spare for holidays or getting rid of 7 year old debts! DH was made bankrupt June 2003 (now discharged) due to a chronically bad business deal going sooo wrong. Now things seem to be looking up (DH is a Head Chef and he was head hunted to run a newly refurbished pub) and I am now official treasurer of our family and want to make our money work for itself and not fritter it away with nothing to show again! Aim number one is to get rid of the huge overdraft, then start getting rid of these old debts one by one. Having said that we are facing a move into this pub (had to give up my successful childminding career for this!) and DH has decided 'cos the weather is really bad in winter (no kidding) he wants a Range Rover by about September (ish). I've told him he'd better get selling lots of food then and get lots of tips and bonus, because I am not, and repeat NOT getting finance again for him on another car. We had a major setback this Feb when we decided to sell our Vectra, it sold for £2750, and we had to pay just over £6k to the finance company to settle. Not good!
Anyway, (I have a habit of waffling - sorry) just felt it was time to say a big thank you to all you guys, the benefits of lurking are already showing and I'm sure this is only the tip of the iceberg.0 -
Hiya,
An impressive start! I know Old Style is a terrific place but I hope you've been browsing the other forums too because there's loads of good stuff to be had in terms of help and information.
If you haven't yet, there's a good quick start to be found in the opening post of this month's Pin Money Challenge. You can find it in our "Challenges" sticky at the top of the forum listing, or you can follow the clue in my signature any time you see it or...
..you can use the Monthly Challenges link in the Blue Bar at the top of every page which looks something like this:-Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there.
