We've ordered our new washing machine :j I can't wait to have a working machine again. I know washing by hand is OS but the washing is taking too long to dry plus there is no way on earth I am attempting to wash bath SHEETS in a storage box or even the bath as they're just too heavy. I am managing to keep up though, just, by having two wash baskets - 1 is "can wait until washer arrives" and is nearly full due to towels and having to change beds
and the other is just a pile next to the basket ATM. I was hoping to finish all the handwashing today as I put most of the whites in to soak in bleach (some were really badly stained with blackcurrent/strawberry juice etc) yesterday afternoon around 3pm and they're still there! BUT it's raining and I make too much mess to do the washing inside plus all the water that drips off them I need to put them out on the washing line. It's supposed to be clearing up this afternoon so I'm hoping to get outside later.
We bought a set of hair clippers at the weekend. We splashed out a bit and got a decent selection set at £24.00 from Argos which includes proper scissors so I'll be able to do DD's hair as wellFirst cut alone using them will save £5+ so they should pay for themselves by Christmas the rate hair seems to grow in this house!
Got lots of jobs to do today plus ebay listings ending today. I need to make bread, tea and cleaning. Off I go....:eek:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
i love my hair clippers. i use them sooo much. Even just with the longest guard on giving OH a quick trim.
Saying that i use them alot for my hairdressing business.... gonna start making some posters to put up at work so people in my day job know what i do as a night job :j0 -
Hello everyone,
Well done AT's son - you must be very pleased.
First day of seven weeks holiday for me - hooray! Today has not started too well, however, as OH went off to work with pushchair in the back of his car, so had to drive to Firstborn's school this morning and am now restricted about what I do today. Might do the Tesco shop as I don't need pushchair for that.
I posted that First Born' s school report wasn't that good on Friday. Well, I wrote a letter to the teacher asking to go in and see her and they phoned back this morning with an appointment tomorrow after school. I had a Bridget Jones moment where I had to quickly run to the computer to check what I had written in the letter as I was quite cross when I wrote it! It's OK, though, but I still want OH with me when I go to the school. Hope he can escape from work for an hour.
Enjoy your day,

I have just ventured into the money saving credit card chat thread - well i started one actually - and I have been ripped to pieces by people taking the mick out of my OS........ I have told them off and retreated to the safety of like minds. I felt like it was another world - bit like royston vasey i suppose.
AT - well done. Does this mean we're soon going to see son giving interviews with Matthew "Kleenex" Pinsent? I shall drop this in during conversation to our business manager who rows and thinks he's "it".......... well, give him another reason not to like me....
Yesterday wasn't to OS - especially as OH let the dinner burn as I was upstairs on PC and he "forgot to look" Still, the banana cake from the allinsons recipe site came out okay and I iced it with lemon drizzle icing - don't know what it takes like though. Froze the rest of the bananas too for future use - so that's them along with all the strawberries we picked the other week - gosh I'm getting good at this...... :j :jBut I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green0 -
Hello to all - and many thanks for the congrats on my sons silver medal - of course he wanted a gold, he won gold in the same event last year but the crew had changed and some of them had just been in a previous race and were already tired - but I think that silver is good even though he's a bit deflated with it. I'm afraid that he's not tall enough for the olympics squad, all the best rowers are well over 6 foot - including the girls - and my son's only 5ft 10" (he didn't choose his parents well) it's all to do with long arms and legs being good for leverage but if around 200 of the best rowers all break an arm or leg nearer the time then he'll be there!

Morning - this thread is my first peek back after a week in the woods. My boyfriend and I stayed in a perfect little cabin, with a stream nearby. We had no electricity or running water; a rain-water flush toilet that you flushed "only when absolutely necessary"! Had to boil water for washing dishes (there was a two ring gas camping cooker). There WAS a shower at the house, elsewhere on the ten acres. It was just perfect. No TV, music, noise, people...just us, books, the stream, and wildlife! VERY OS! Only thing that wasn't OS was the couple of packets of bad food we had to buy at the village shop. A "Pasta'n'sauce" - WHAT???? It's not FOOD! I never waste anything, but really couldn't bring myself to have the leftovers for lunch the next day, it was too horrid for words. And a chilli-con-carne mix - not so bad, but very glue-like of course. We HAD budgeted for a couple more pub meals, see, but in the end wanted to just stay at the cabin to eat, and so had to make do with what the shop had after our food was gone. Lovely meal out in posh pub though, not very OS at all, but lots of local ingredients. Nice.
Anyway...back to reality. But I feel even more compelled than before to simplify and de-clutter my life. And the TV is only going to make a rare appearance for the forseeable, because I'm sick of it!
Apprentice Tycoon - well done to your Son, how fabulous! Can't believe the cost of squash though!
Margaret, have a great time in Skye!
Ancasta - there will always be some idiots -well handled!
VickyA - good luck with the application
Chipps - it was lovely to hear about you guys taking your Grandma to Ikea! I guess it's another world really, especially for someone of her generation!
Pooky - shame about the bread. I had the same result once when I left the yeast out by accident, but surely you wouldn't have done that?!...
Nicky - I was tired just reading about your handwashing! I washed by hand for a year at Uni, but now I avoid it like the plague. Glad to hear your new machine is on the way!
Henhog - here's to a fabulous seven weeks holiday!!
Rage - never mind, at least we can feel smug about our OS ways! (I can't help myself!)
Have a good day, all!0 -
You guys are so sweet. When I have been reading in the other threads and looking at the abuse some people get, I also put my tail between my legs and come back to beloved OS. Even though I mainly lurk. But today I had to write and say that here I feel comfy
And Chipps, I actually had a wee tear in my eye when I read your post it is beautiful. Set the firealarm off today when I made OS homemade chips. Blast. My plumbing has started to go pearshaped so have stuck bicarb and soda down every single plughole. Hope it works! Have a lovely week you lovely people :hello:

Hi Rage
Couldn't resist making a comment on your CC post thread, I know I'll pay for it later but really....what a bunch of idiots over there:eek:. I know what I have said isn't in the spirit of the MS forum, I sincerly hope OS doesn't come across like that to new posters though? But I suppose we can afford to be a bit smug in OS, what with not carrying so much debt & not constantly needing to serach for 0% balance transfers:D
So far my OS day has included getting the first coat of paint onto Spuds toybox (a family heirloom....sort of...belonged to me and before that my Mum and before that was used to transport files around the Cabinet Office...my great Aunt was a clerk there! Has "property of HM Goverment" embossed on it but I am assured it wasn't stolen but thrown out after WW2!)
Breadmaker is on, kitchen & bathroom are cleaned & I am about to tackle the weekends laundry. Am thinking I might give myself a couple of hours off this afternoon to laze in front of a DVD, if only I can find a comfortable position to laze in!?!Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -
I'm very new - have posted twice on the whole site so far, but you guys seem so friendly! I think I've found OS blood in my veins, and want to learn from you all!
This morning I have: put on a nappy wash (cloth nappies and wipes for my baby girl!), made bread rolls for lunch, washed windows, kitchen and both upstairs bathroom and downstairs loo - all using things from my Clean Home clean planet book I got for mother's day. We're going out later to take my son to soft play - we got a voucher last time we went and it expires today, so there's no point wasting it ... and then coming home to do a roast with home made apple sauce (you can't beat it, in my book!)
I'm sure I'll pick up the pin money challenge and things as I go along, but I wanted to say hi!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 002 :rotfl:0 -
You don't have to ask to join in - but you DO have to have a bottle of white vinegar and some bicarb in your cupboards.
Thinks: I've got more of my traditional pantry goods in my cleaning cupboard these days!Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there.
