Old Style 16 January

Am I really first  I'll off and get the sticky..............

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for today. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Back again  Good morning everyone! Busy day today. Off to w*** where we'll be discussing what service we'll be offering at our CAB after the funding reductions in April. It's likely to be quite bloody   I'm planning sitting on my hands, as the more I think about this the more    I get :o

Potato and bacon bake for tea, so will be preparing that before w***. Need something that the Small Penguins can put in the oven, as it's Scouts tonight.

I'm trying to knit some fingerless gauntlets. Bought some double ended needles in Oxfam yesterday, and am using up wool oddments. This is the first time I've knitted *in the round* and it's taking some getting used to :p  Maybe I'll sit in my meeting, like a lady from the French Revolution, and knit :rotfl: :rotfl:

Hope your day will be better than mine, Penny. x

    Morning Penelope and others.

I am happy to say that my flu and stuff is on it's way out. I still can't smell or taste much, but my head feels lighter.
Back to work today at 1pm, so quite looking forward to it after 4 days off.

Getting sick of all the rain down here, thankfully no floods, but everything is soggy all the same with more to come.

hope you all have a good day..

Morning PENPEN - yes, you are the first this morning!

I've just pushed my DH out of the door - it's been like getting the kids ready for school this morning because, 10 minutes before he was due to leave, he remembered he needed an invoice typing out to take with him but, first, he had to hunt down the little scrap of paper with all the relevant details on it, and then he couldn't read his own writing! Anyway, he has been severely told off and told that he must get himself ready the night before. I remember telling the children that almost every day!

Well, I had a lovely afternoon with DGS7 (8 on Sunday) - he taught me how to play cribbage with the crib board I had picked up in a charity shop. He beat me of course and I could not believe the speed at which he added up all the numbers on the cards. I had to tell him to slow down!

Wasn't the weather disgusting yesterday? I do hope no-one is suffering from it; I haven't caught the news yet.

Today's plan is to give the house a good going-over from top to bottom, do my ironing (just a handful of things - I'm keeping it down), pop to the local shop for the paper and to post a letter, spend an hour on the comp board and then work all afternoon. Dinner will be sausages in onion gravy with roast potatoes, peas and carrots, and rice pud (for DH) for afters. A nice easy no-brainer meal - the sort I like!

I must finish sewing up the little doll I have knitted for DGD4 (5 next Wednesday) ready for her birthday. DGS's and DGD's birthdays are just three days apart so it's an expensive time for DS1 and DIL and quite difficult thinking of things to buy them after all the Christmas shopping. I must sort through their presents and start wrapping them up and, also, make their cards.

Well, I'm off to put the BM on, have a shower and strip the sheets of so see you all later.

    (((Hugs))) to all in need.

    KathyXX

Edited because N9EAV and MRSMIX sneaked in when I wasn't looking. N9EAV - glad you're feeling better but don't over do it - it took ages for me to get over it.

MRSMIX - I hope you start feeling better soon and that this weather doesn't last much longer.

I thought about starting the thread but got sidetracked. We must all be sleepyheads today :)

DH was wonderful last night when I worked late - cooked, washed up, washed kitchen floor, washed the cat bowls. He's gone from leaving the bowl full of greasy water in a scummy sink, to rinsing, drying and wiping everything. I think the decluttering and cleaning I did last week has inspired him to stay on top of the daily stuff, because the house does look and feel much better. I tidied the livingroom before we got sidetracked with a film on Sky (The Holiday - lovely and gentle). I emailed him a list early in the day of what I wanted us to get through before bed and he did most of it - I was so impressed.

Today is going to be busy with probably a 12 hour working day. I keep Shredded Wheat at work, and will take soup and a roll and an apple for lunch. Tonight I'm making a chilli 'lasagne' with flat wraps from the freezer and 0% Greek yoghurt; I can usually assemble this in 5 minutes so very much an emergency meal using Sainsburys Basics tinned chilli which is really nice.

I'm enjoying reading Kim & Aggie's The Clean Bible, but it's clear neither of them work fulltime, so I'm still trying to work out what we can do when and come up with effective routines.

I've got a wet load to go in the TD before work, and will put the dry stuff away tonight. Wil also hoover the downstairs tonight so at least I feel we're staying on top of it.

N9eav, glad you're feeling a bit better, and Mrs Mix, hope you feel better later. DLB, hope you and OH make up soon, life is too short for arguments (even if you are right ;))

Work today, so sausage casserole in slow cooker for tea. Trying to lose weight, so salad for lunch, but I would much rather have something with chips :rotfl:

Pitch black outside again, I waited to walk the dog yesterday until it was light, and it was turned 8 o'clock  At least it's not raining - hope no-one out there is facing flooding again.

Have a good day everyone x

Been awake since 6 but am finding it so hard to get up. At least it's stopped trying to take the roof off the house here.

PENPEN thinking of you in your meeting, it really is c**p.

Hope all of you who feel rough are better soon, have managed to avoid the norovirus so far at home and work (touch wood), it is so nasty. Take it easy if you've got it, it really knocks it out of you.

Today I plan to visit Wilkinsons and poundland in the next town. After some stardrops which I've never tried and seed potatoes. Also want to have a quick look in Boots and see if there is anything left in thier sale as I have some birthdays coming up. Also have to go to Lidl and farm shop.

Then it's home for some more studying and tidying up. OH is on holiday this week, so nothing will be achieved IYKWIM:rolleyes: .

Have got HM watercress soup for lunch I turfed out of the freezer. Dinner will be bits and pieces out of the freezer.

Off to turf DS out of bed. Have a good day all:A xxxx

I've just dropped hubby off at the station, his fare was £7.20, so it's gone up 50p. It was manic as expected at work yesterday, the last teacher to bring work in for me to do arrived at 3:20, I leave at 3:30!
My DD popped in yesterday evening, she has altered her working hours so is now passing our house earlier.
Tesco shop was wrong, 6 items left off which I phoned about last night & they didn't accept the £10 off voucher due to technical difficulties, so I will be phoning customer services again today.
I hope everyone has a wonderfuf Wednesday.
    Hugs Hester
