I am still going to manage my holiday in october that we ahve been saving form. I have paid the accommodation, BF has booked the flights, and so it is just the spending money, and that has been already taken into consideration before I went ahead. It is going to be tight, but it is going to happen! I havent waited all year for this break to loose the money I have already paid out.
Hopefully in two weeks time, when the move has happened, and the holiday is upon us things with BF will be fine. Or thats 5 of us ruined holidays??? Not bear thinking about.
Now back to sorting those boxes.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.
  • Glad to hear things are moving on the housing front and you are able to do as you wish! I hope everyone else soon gets moving and starts helping you out. Would it be worth asking the social work for any practical help when moving? Even just to ensure the twins are doing their bit in packing and the actual move?

Mooloo if you guys are entitled to housing benefit you might be able to get them to pay towards both, I have know it happen where circumstances mean you have to pay for both.
One day I might be more organised...........

Yup, it's called dual Housing Benefit, not sure they will pay both for more than two weeks but definitely worth asking about, even if it's only part of the rent on each house.

  • Hi Mooloo,

Further to the comments above about HB on both properties. You need to ask for unavoidable overlap which can be paid for 4 weeks. (Usually the notice period).
To qualify for this you need to have your timing right so as soon as you learnt that the new property was available you should have given notice to your current landlord (as soon as reasonably possible) AND the big thing is that you must move into your new property as soon as the tenancy starts otherwise they won't pay HB from that date. (By move in, it means spend first night there)

Hello, thanks for all the posts.
I picked up the agreements today, after we had been to the school. The school say that there are going to be problems getting DS into some of the lessons that he had been doing as they dont do it, however he came across as mature and sensible to the teacher and he has said that he will not go on the holiday so that he can catch up at school, and that he will do his work experience the week earlier, to fit in the school half term, so that he doesnt miss out on any more work. If he really is going to knuckle under this time then I will be very happy. I have warned him that he will have to work hard to make the grade. The down side of it all is that there is a school uniform and that is going to set me back £82.70 !!! eek. (Unless I can manage to find some other shop that sells the blazers etc.) Better do a bit of networking with some old aquaintences and see if they know of anywhere? But if DS is not coming to Portugal with us, I suppose I will save some money, so the holiday funds can be reduced as it will only be me to pay for. BF pays for his share.
The house has been tenanted to the twins as well. I think that this will be better, as they can claim housing benefit in thier own right for thier share, I think. Think that was what the Social Worker here said anyway.
There is a company called Angels that will sort out our electric and gas readings etc and notify the council of our tenancy, as of Tomorrow. So if we have to sleep there to qualify then perhaps I can go over in the car with a load, and use the camp bed for the night, and come back on the following morning. Its possible.

I heard that the new house was mine on Monday, and I wrote a notice to quit to my landlord and gave it to him Monday evening before I went to towcester. The papers will be signed tonight after tea and babies are down, (well hopefully I just got BBJ down, his mum was struggling too). Then My Dad is going to drive back here tomorrow, collect the papers and take them back to the estate agent and he is going to give him the keys. We have a Social Service review meeting at 2pm and I wasnt sure I could do the two trips in the time the office was open. If my Dad has the keys then we can get up their when ever we want. The pressure is off, and also Dad will take a few things in the car for us, (As long as they are not too heavy as he cant carry heavy things at his age now.). He will then off load them at the house for us.
Things do look like they are coming together for me.
I just hope that the children will make some effort to help pack up, as we have to get sorted by Sunday for the furniture :rotfl: :rotfl:

Your son sounds as if he very clearly understands what his priorities need to be. Is there some way you can treat him to something special to make up for him very sensibly sacrificing his holiday? Thinking back to the difficulty you had in getting twin 2 out of bed the other day to feed her baby its breakfast, will the social workers be looking after the twins and their babies when you're on holiday ?
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
