Without getting drawn into a long mathematical debate, it could make sense to refresh a 12 month account if you've got a lot of spare capacity in 6%+ accounts so could spread the proceeds around. But now that Monmouthshire's regular saver with the £1000 monthly limit has dropped off, there probably aren't many people who've got any spare capacity. So it's a bit of a niche scenario.

    Halifax

I was recently (late August) able to close and re-open, no delay in being able to open the new account (I think I had to log out and in again). I guess if you check it's still available on the website first, then you'd be very unlucky if it got pulled in the brief time it takes you to close your existing account.

Could some kind person point me to the link for the archived Ts&Cs for the Save & Grow BRANCH/POSTAL account please - I can't find it listed on page 1 of the No Chat thread. Thanks.

    Halifax RS

I have today successfully renewed my 8% Halifax RS (opened 14/07/26) to a bonus saver, and opened a new 8% RS. The old RS had £750 in it (3 X £250). Interest added for 2 months was £6.54, New one (8% fixed until Sept 2027) funded with £250 for September (from the proceeds of the old one).

I did this in anticipation of the Halifax brand disappearing along with the 8% Halifax RS. Precise date is unclear but I thought worthwhile to extend my RS account. Other views equally valid.

Only do this if you have an active login for Halifax, otherwise let your old one run to maturity.

Remember to cancel your existing SO and set up a new one from 1st October with the new RS details. Very easy to do as COP works immediately with LBG accounts.

    Halifax 8% RS

I renewed mine this afternoon, easily done in 5 minutes.

'Upgraded' old account, logged out, logged in, applied for new RS and then funded.

Melton BS paperwork for the Regular Saver 6 which matures on 30th September has landed, complete with prepaid envelope.

Mentions their new online system (it was over a year ago 😂)

Default appears to be an account paying 1%. Doesn’t seem to be a way to set maturity instructions online but I’m hoping I can just log in and close the account on the 1st.

The form to be returned with instructions doesn't have the account number pre-printed, nor any place to enter it. I'm going to let mine mature into instant access and then close online (option for electronic transfer to nominated account).
