Passbook accounts
Good point about sending off the passbook and maturity instructions a week or 2 before the maturity date. I have only recently had accounts with passbooks so I need to amend the Google calendar now to include passbook sending days
These are the 3 I have with passbooks - are there any others I've forgotten about … (Also have Leek and Stafford but these are dormant accounts kept alive with a small donation each month for the purposes of a loyalty account sometime in the future)
Dudley
Mansfield
Hanley

Accounts may have passbooks but their return on maturity may not be necessary, thinking Monmouthshire?

General rule appears to be if you can get the money out online or via app, no passbook necessary. If you transact by post, such as with this Dudley account, the book is necessary.
The last Monmouthshire account I had asked for the book if returning the form, but I just went online and sorted it myself. I also have books for Melton and Cambridge but have never needed them.
I expect the next maturities that need the book will be Dudley Festive (Branch/Post) and Mansfield (end of bonus rate.)
I believe Suffolk need the book if there is one, but now that branch/post and online accept the same £300, there will likely be less of them. I have a passbook version maturing 28.2.27 as it accepts £500, vs £250 for the online version of the same issue (which I didn't bother with.)
EDIT: Having set up the app that came alongside the new Scottish BS online system, it appears as though withdrawals are possible without the book (gave options for next working day or choosing another date, but I didn’t actually proceed.)

Earl Shilton uses passbook.
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -
In the kindest way please let's not let the thread go tangential and start listing all the organisations with passbooks.

Dudley Building Society Passbook
I recently prematurely closed a Dudley RS without returning a passbook by claiming they had not sent one to me or more likely that I had put it in a safe place and could not remember where that safe place was

But presumably still had to send them a letter to do that, so it doesn't save any postage.
When I early closed mine I wasn't expecting to see the book again but it arrived in the post a day or two after the funds hit my account, with closed stamped on almost every other page (despite there being a closure transaction listed.)

Dudley Building Society passbook & postage
I returned by passbook to Dudley BS using a prepaid envelope they had sent me at my request, along with the requisite form to close the account

I could not find my Dudley passbook either so called them and they confirmed they had never sent one to me despite it being a branch account.
Apparently not everyone was sent one at the time of opening and they told me closure was possible without it. So I just returned the paperwork in the prepaid envelope and it should be fine
