Having had nothing to speak of between November and the beginning of February we've now had three tariffs in a month! (not though any of them have been much cop for a lot of us!)
As for the question about how cheap or otherwise Octopus are - for some of us who value customer service and have previously had poor experiences on that front with the likes of EDF, Scottish Power and Shi…sorry, BRItish Gas, and who are prepared to put the work in with a tariff like Agile, they're still a good bet. I don't think there are many here who would argue about the fact that sometimes/often there are other suppliers who are cheaper - but sometimes price isn't the sole consideration.
As a general rule accusations of forumites being industry shills come from conspiracy theorist types on threads where their main aim is to peddle their misinformation - they tend to react like that as soon as someone calls them out on their nonsense!

For the sake of balance, some of us have not had glowing customer service experience from Octopus either, despite paying through the nose for it.
Octopus customer service standards, imho, fell through the floor when they took on ex-Bulb customers and many ex-Bulb customer service agents, and Octopus still haven't recovered. It obviously depends on which 'Energy Specialist' Octopus assign to look after your account. You can't control that, nor can you escalate matters of concern internally as they all think they are a manager at Octopus Energy. Account management responsibilities does not make the employee a manager of the company.
Thank goodness for the Energy Ombudsman, is all I can say.

A lot of people, I guess, are waiting for the April tariffs, with the "£150" drop in unit rates equivalent, and also for the low/zero s/c tariffs to turn up rather than continuously swapping to save tiny amounts of money, if any. Octopus seem to have gone the AI bot route on email, which can be fun to wind up, but still have real people at the end of the phone (for the moment) - overall I think they have lost their edge a bit and they definitely need a more intelligent AI to solve problems on-line which would then immediately, having narrowed down the problem, refer the matter to their actual human team for action - it would also save them money and time.

I agree, there was a recent thread with some horrendous stories of Octopus customer service on the /r/OctopusEnergy subreddit.

Octopus fixed tariffs are not really fixed as you can switch anytime without penalties.
The likes of Outfox have £100 exit fees.

So pay about £150 per year more with Octopus (typically) or face a possible £100 early exit fee to leave a fixed tariff early. The choice is yours.
And of course, Outfox have a sister company that offers non-fixed tariffs and no early exit fees. Usually even cheaper than Outfox too!. Great for those who may not wish to commit at present.

Just to complicate things, now news that £40 will be moved from s/c to unit rates in April…

Nonsense.
Just compared Outfox Fix'd Dual Feb26 12M v2.0 against my Octopus tariff Nov 2025 v3
I would save £46 but the exit fees are £150.

You can try spinning it all you want. The Octopus Nov 2025v3 tariff is no longer on sale.
I'll let the images below do the talking, based on typical average usage i,e. 2700kWh elec & 11,500 kWh gas) for the NE supply region. Feel free to choose any supply region you want, I'm sure you'll see a similar result.
For the sake of full transparency, this is an edited selection of suppliers/tariffs only. Consult a comparison site and ensure you are looking at the 'whole of market' to see the full picture.
