You may find that some of their posts contain swearing, sexual inuendo and personal attacks. You may also struggle to find many (any?) useful money saving tips or help and advice for other members.

Very true Nile, I would count myself as one of these people, except for the personal attacks, of which i'm not in the habit of doingNobody can make you feel inferior, without your permission

Wow I can't beleive that this has formed a topic of discussion & that I am now joining it. I agree with all of the above, and to be frank I really don't mind what my thank numbers count up to, as long as I feel that I have added something that may or may not help (depending on whether people want to use the information I have given).
I'm sure that there aren't too many people on here who really mind how many 'thanks' they have. Isnt this site really all about sharing our skills and knowledge, and in the case of the arms sharing a bit of light hearted banter!!
If someone wishes to use their time to ultimately thank themselves or get friends to thank them, then I think they completely have too much time on their hands and should be ignored and looked on for what they are, rather than given the fame that they don't deserve.
The more important issue I would say that has come from that member is abuse, and Im sure that Martin or the other guides will deal with that, although again best method of dealing with abuse is to report it and simply walk away without comment. Im sure thanking yourself and abusing people who dont give any response has a very short enjoyment!!!0 -

That is so untrue Rush. What people do not see are the helpful pm's you send out re your duties as BG. Friendly, helpful, patient and efficient. I also believe that if you didn't entertain in "The Arms" your post count would not be so high as if you bored people you would have no replies.
People help in many ways not just saving money.Guest.0 -

The thanks button is a useful tool and I hope it stays.
The count for the quanity of thanks can be as misleading as the count for posts and stars etc. It doesn't always follow that members with a high post count and star rating are here to find or share money saving tips.

That may be true of a certain few , but it's not fair to say that just because a member doesn't post advice or ask for advice that they're not on the site to save money. A person can save an awful lot of money by just reading the enormous amount of advice and knowledge that some of the great people on this site post without ever once posting themselves.
As regards to the sexual innuendo in the Arms , that has been going on a long long time and we've discussed it before and Martin said he liked the Arms the way it is , so i'd be interested to hear if he still thinks that way. Any posts that go over the top can and should be dealt with by abcon , but generally it's all harmless fun.Same old same old since 20080 -

well you picked the name ,you take the blame:p0 -
What I think is you could:-
1) Get rid of thanks in MoneySaversArms.
2) Recognise that the rest of the site is about moneysaving by making Armsers have to do 100 thanks for the equivalent of one on the rest of the site and make Traf do 500 thanks for one everywhere else.
3) Get rid of it altogether.
4) Keep it as it is but then no-one should whinge about it.
5) Keep it as it is but hide the list of top thanked users so there is no competition about it.
6) Abusive posts/members is a totally seperate issue to abuse of the thanks button (which clearly goes on anyway) and should be reported to Abcons.Torgwen.....................

I agree with you on this fran
and sorry to take your thread off topic andy,
some of the recent posts/threads with sexual content from the Arms, have been reported to abcon and board guides, if there are enough complaints or reasonable grounds abcon will remove them, as they have done this last week.
It's not necessarily that abcon or board guides don't enjoy the humour but the fact is that this site is open to all ages and unless it carries an 'Adult Content Warning' then we have a duty to make sure that the site does not contain material that could get Martin into any trouble.I am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards.
