EDF FreePhase Dynamic Tariff

It’s down to the formula EDF use to work out the rates. I believe it’s something like
W (Wholesale price) x C ( regional multiplier) + P ( Red rate regional add on )South West is W x. 2.01 + 11.25
East Midlands. W x 2.05 + 6.44
North West. W x 2.08. + 11.06
Those formula rates are due to change in April

Have sent email asking to be changed to Freephase Static, not bothered about 9 month return rule to go back on Dynamic.

Interested to hear your thinking about doing this… worried about coming volatility, or was Dynamic not working for you?

Static prices are very decent in current climate. 😎

Ive switched from Agile to Cosy probably for the same reason. Short term the next two weeks are quite windless so fairly high prices - that's OK, but the electricity prices are strongly linked to gas prices and those are heading towards the peak of Russian invasion.russian invasion, and you will see at 12 tomorrows prices. Yes it could be a very short term panic and hopefully it is, but you never know.

Prices for tomorrow not great but amber and green still below the price cap. Considering what is going on, very little wind power and gas doing pretty much all the heavy lifting it's not really too bad. I guess it could well get a lot worse depending on how the Iran situation plays out etc but I'll be sticking with it for now.

For what it's worth, tomorrow in the London region amber is above the price cap by a small amount…
(n.b. I haven't checked through all the regions)More generally speaking, it'd be interesting to see a rough mapping of the Dynamic rates to the electricity generation mix over a period of time, to see what the correlation is between renewables (wind and solar) and lower prices.

Amber for us (SE) is 25.74p
Price cap for us is 28.27p
Our red is slightly higher though, at 51.94p
Wind has been very poor the last couple of days which is probably the main contributor to the higher rates. Gas having to do pretty much all the heavy lifting. Solar hasn't been too bad though as it's been quite sunny but obviously the days aren't all that long yet.

Have EDF responded and is your Static tariff live yet?

Fantastic Q 😀 Nope 🙄
Not planning to stay with EDF during summer months thought would kill two birds with one stone, currently cheaper on static and start 9 month period off from today (or so I thought)
Only usage today will be fridge and laptop charging. 😎
