That's a good article.
Three things of note:
- High river water temperatures are limiting output at some nuclear reactors in France (the water being needed to cool the reactors)
- British gas turbine plants have seen unplanned outages or otherwise reduced output due to the heat, and as a result we're about 2.5GW of generation down - this apparently is "not unusual" as said plants "tend to really struggle in extreme temperatures"
- "Solar farms typically generate less power in very high temperatures, as rising panel heat reduces efficiency."
Generating electricity in unusually high temperatures is a bit of a challenge, and one that doesn't just affect renewables.

Free electric tomorrow, forecast between 10:00 and 16:00. The amber period will also be around 4.5p

It is always going to depend on wind and solar - depending on band - as the low rate plunge pricing - are all to do with renewables grossly imbalancing the generation vs demand system in the UK (and Europes - as the interconnects expose us to their imbalances too).
Like users with agile - which does occassionally hit it's £1 cap - you need to look at the rates on balance - smoothing the highs with the lows - what matters is your average rate over time - compared to a traditional fix or variable deal.
