EDF FreePhase Dynamic Tariff

@JKenH. Its called a Beta Tariff, and a smart meter is necessary to be on it so therefore it seems to be a “smart” tariff

Doh! I googled EDF export tariffs and the first item that came up was an EON page which I clicked on without realising. Thanks for pointing that out - I will delete the content of my earlier post.bristolleedsfan said:
Thread is about EDF Tariff, not Eon NextJKenH said:The Free Phase Dynamic looks attractive to me after comparing rates with Octopus Agile but I wasn’t absolutely sure which export tariffs are available alongside the tariff. This was my best guess:Next Export Exclusive v3.
We'll reward you with 13p per kWh of electricity you export on a 12-month fixed-term SEG tariff.
Fixed SEG rates for 12 months.
No exit fees.
Requires a smart export meter and consent for half hourly consumption data collection.
Eligibility criteria:
Import energy tariff with E.ON Next excluding smart tariffs i.e. Next Drive.
A residential customer with a renewable generation system (i.e. solar) up to 15kW.
New and existing customers.
Has anyone else looked into this? Does Free Phase count as a “smart” tariff - I assume not as there is no interaction with customer devices?
Northern Lincolnshire. 7.8 kWp system, (4.2 kw west facing panels , 3.6 kw east facing), Solis inverters, Solar IBoost water heater, Mitsubishi SRK35ZS-S and SRK20ZS-S Wall Mounted Inverter Heat Pumps, ex Nissan Leaf owner)1 -

Looks like the Export 12M export tariff would be the applicable SEG tariff for my installation. That pays 15p/kWh fixed, same rate as my existing Octopus export tariff except that isn’t fixed.bristolleedsfan said:Northern Lincolnshire. 7.8 kWp system, (4.2 kw west facing panels , 3.6 kw east facing), Solis inverters, Solar IBoost water heater, Mitsubishi SRK35ZS-S and SRK20ZS-S Wall Mounted Inverter Heat Pumps, ex Nissan Leaf owner)0 -
Here are the dynamic prices, they're released earlier than Agile, about 12:
https://www.edfenergy.com/tariff-information-labels/freePhase
The top rates are cheaper 75p Vs £1 and the negative rates in theory shouldn't exist as they will be averaged out by all other positive hours.. but there is some info that they will text you notifying you about them and then electricity is free (also on static version).
Tbh the negative rates on Agile is just marketing really, as it never adds up that much, max I had was maybe 50p 😅
Still in two minds about jumping, as I've moved to Octopus (Agile) only about month ago.
But whoever manages switch - let me know how long did take from SVR to ToU tarrif.3 -
My switch doesn’t complete till Thursday but that is the ? How long will I have to wait on SVR before moving to Dynamic?Just as a matter of interest I’ve compared how much I would have paid so far this month on Dynamic with Agile and my current supplier Fuse.
Fuse £43.78
Agile £38.29.Dynamic £36.91
The above includes Standing Charges and I used 180.24kwh1 -
Yeah I think in general it should be similar to Agile with some exceptions:
- max 75p Vs 100p
- edge cases should be cheaper 15:30 etc.
- you lose the lower rates during each period
My one may be few pounds more one month and few quids less another.
The big benefits for me are that I can set automation once and never bother again, easier to explain to family, I could make most of peaks for heating 15:30 as on Agile they get quite expensive sometimes.1 -
Don’t forget the lower Standing Charges on Dynamic which accounts for most of the difference in the comparison above.0

North West region EDF dynamic and static SC are the same and dearer than Octopus tariffs.tlcgrantham said:Don’t forget the lower Standing Charges on Dynamic which accounts for most of the difference in the comparison above.
