Also, can i just switch a couple of direct debits? When I have gone into the 'account switch' it looks like it wants to switch the whole account and close the old one down, which I don't want to happen.
That's what a full CASS switch does and is a requirement of the offer. It moves everything from the old account across to the new one and then closes the old account.
But then how are people managing to do it by setting up just one or two direct debits? Sorry if I'm missing something here!
You set up a mule account with a couple of DD's.

The switch offer has now ended though.
Thank you, I did open the account on Weds. I have had no emails or anything through from them. Just had my debit card arrive and went to switch stuff over but think I've maybe done it wrong. I just called Barclays and that team go home at 2pm, so I need to call again on Monday.

It's a long time since I last did a switch with Barclays so I can't remember if they send emails. Someone on here who's done this offer will be able to tell you. Many banks don't send emails or texts updating on switch progress.

Once you've followed the terms of the offer (e.g. direct debits set up before switch, moving money across to new account) I wouldn't worry about it. You can always query them if you don't receive the bonus within the timeline specified in the offer.

I wonder if anyone else who has opened up this account has been refused the £500 overdraft facility ?
The £500 overdraft was a big pull in switching for me, as well as the £400 bonus of course.
Unless it only kicks in after a certain period after opening the a/c ??
  • the 4 rule got me, my 5 digit PIN wouldn't work when getting to my PIN, it needs a 4 day to pass and also 4 days need to move money out of the account.   No prior notice anywhwere as I would have waited.

Account all opened ok, PIN and online locked, new Online App Account needed now the switch fails from HFX to Barclays.   Shambles.

Nothing is written down and the girl apologised.   Heading into branch in the morning to sort PIN.

    Emails flowing ok.

Update on my experience in case it is helpful for anyone:
    • Switched account with 2 Direct Debits to a new Barclays Premier account.
    • Not asked for any evidence of income during application
    • Switch went fine
    • Barclays account was locked immediately after switch, and there was no way to unlock it over phone - insisted I went into branch with ID. I still don't know what the issue was, there were no transactions on the account, and nothing changed between application and switch. The Direct Debits switch were to credit cards I use for Stoozing so shouldn't have been suspicious.
    • As the account was locked, I could not deposit the required funds for the incentive, but the incentive was paid regardless (I got a text saying it would be paid within 10 days, I was locked out of app).
    • I tried to switch account to close it and access the incentive, but Barclays blocked the switch due to the account being frozen.
    • As the local branch closed a few years back, and also the one in the next biggest town, it took a month before I was in a location with a Barclays branch (the closest now being a 25 mile round trip).
    • It took 45 minutes for them to go through ID and unlock account, after which I could transfer incentive to another account via the app I could now access, and closed the account.
It was truly like banking in the 1990s, having to telephone call centres and go into branch. The whole experience was a shambles.

1990s? you were lucky! ... Right, now when I had to visit a branch it was 100 mile away, had to queue for 2 hours, they didn't accept my ID, would need to make an appointment with the manager ... and I would have to pay for the privilege!  ;) [edit: joking]
